TD05H is the standard turbo used on the pre 96 JDM WRX and STI unless its a wagon which had the TD04...but...there is a small 16g and a big 16g the difference being the size of the compressor wheel and the only way of telling is if you remove the compressor housing and have a look.

Got on of these ready to go on my leggy along with a H&S Downpipe and a forge adjustable actuator :D:D:D
[GK-customfield]Lewis[customfield-GK]
Starlet GT 1.3 forged engine, tdo4 turbo @ 1.25bar = 252bhp = SOLD :(

EDIT: Charade GTxx 993cc three cylinder turbo, 173bhp @ 1.4bar (should hit 200bhp with a larger throttle body, removing stupid high lift cams and a bit more boost)

The TD05 turbo fitted to my STI type R V4 has now maxed out along with the injectors. Pushing 294bhp ATH and boosting to 1.42 bar. I have been told by Paul at Zen the way forward for me would be Tdo5/6 20g roller bearing capable of producing 450bhp with the same response, as the roller bearing allow quick spool up even though it is a bigger turbo.

Are you planning on uprating the turbo? or just looking to map you car to the turbos limits?

I was under the impression that the TD05/06 20G was only good for around 400bhp with the 18G around the 380bhp...

Not quite sure on the power figures Jay, I think the Turbo gets sent off to turbo dynamics to be overhauled and roller bearings installed. Will have a look on Scoobynet to find out some more

This should make for some good reading and clear a few things up.

Pre 97 UK Imprezas and JDM Saloon models come from the factory with a Mitsubishi TD05-16g turbo capable of around 340hp, and when modified to fit can be an effective upgrade for UK cars from 97 onwards originally fitted with a TD04. Aswell as the TD05, the IHI VF series of turbos include a number of very effective turbos, some of which were fitted to various JDM Imprezas and newage UK STI cars. The recent VF34 turbos fitted to some new age JDM STI cars is a very capable unit, providing a great balance of spoolup and power. A more developed turbo when compared to the earlier models fitted to 97-00 STI models.

For UK STI Imprezas (and V7 JDM STI), or UK cars looking for over 340hp, the range of Mitsubishi Hybrid turbos are the ideal choice. The TD05-18g is capable of as much as 380hp with supporting mods, and offers a bar of boost from around 3000rpm in high gears. For those looking at higher peak power figures, with a slight compromise in spoolup, the TD05-20g can support around 400hp, and spools up about 3-400rpm later than the 18g. For over 400hp the TD06-50trim uses the larger TD06h turbine coupled with a Garrett compressor wheel rated at 49lb/min airflow. Capable of around 450hp with the right setup, giving full boost from around 3000rpm on a 2.5L engine, it's the ideal turbo for a moderate to high power 2.5 conversion.

Will run which turbo Paul a Zen says is best and suited to the engines internals(and gearbox). I don't really want to spend any more money on the engine, as it is a STI 9 spec C bottom end. Which came with uprated rods pistons and a knife edge crank. Paul tells me it will be capable of running 550 bhp (for about two days) or a more realistic and reliable 400 bhp. Turbos should be suited to the engine otherwise there is huge lag or the turbo will be maxed out.

One thing is for sure it will be a bit quicker
