Fighting Style: Balalaika rarely fights with her hands, but when she does, she has years of experience as a Russian paratrooper on which to draw. She is deadly with pretty much anything she can get her hands on, or with her hands alone. She is an expert marksman, and prefers to use a Tokarev pistol, but will sometimes fight with an AK-47 assault rifle or throwing knives. She rarely bothers to block an attack, preferring to counter an attack by turning it's motion against the attacker. Her preffered method of dispatching an opponent, of course, is a single bullet through the head, unless they've really pissed her off.
Items: Cigar case, usually with several cigars, pocket torch lighter.
Personality: Balalaika is extremely cynical, due to her experiences in Afghanistan and later, when she was booted out of the military after the fall of the Soviet Union. However, she remains the prgmatic, practical military leader she once was.

History: In her younger days her uncle was a general for the military and she was training to go to the Olympics as a target shooter. By the time she was old enough to be on the Olympic team she was in the military, fighting in Afghanistan. She was an officer of Airborne troops and her company was highly decorated. She is ruthless in her pursuit of a target and extremely skilled in getting what she wants. She "desires only domination and death", and is "interested only in how much I can dance in the pit of hell".

Following the Afghan war Balalaika was dismissed from the military, due to injuries suffered in the fighting. She resented her dismassal, not least because her injuries did nothing to hinder her abilities. She watched the Olympics in LA, watched an American take the gold medal that could easily have been hers. Her second in command tried to persuade her that all was not lost, that the men would follow their Kapitan. Later, as they all gather to watch the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the collapse of the nation to which they pledged their lives, all of them men tried to persuade her to take them into action independent of the government. She ruefully replies that the nation they fought for was no more.

A few years later her second in command is killed over dirty money. Balalaika shows up late to the funeral, wearing her military uniform. She calls out to her comrades, ordering them back to active duty as of that moment. As they had said twice before, every man present saluted and followed her. They joined the Russian Mafia and formed the organization known as Hotel Moscow. Hotel Moscows aggressive policies startled even others in the Russian Mafia, who ostracized, so they thought, Balalaika and her men to South Asia, Roanapur in Thailand.

Balalaika quickly becomes comfortable in her new setting, the police are corrupt, nearly every citizen is in someway involved in the underground... Balalaika enjoys her new setting indeed, and immediately starts making a name for herself. She quickly targets and eliminates several of the large, troublesome, street gangs, taking much of their drug, prostitution, and protection business. Given the fact that within a month Hotel Moscow had eliminated all the local street gangs, or incorporated them, something the other syndicates had been trying to do for years, ensured Hotel Moscows place a big fish in the pond.

The other mobs and Hotel Moscow all step up to the bargaining table and strik,e a deal that ensures a time of relative peace and prosperity for the gangs. But, as always, not everybody was happy with the deal. One of the Chinese Triad members, Mr. Chin, tried to muscle in on the business guaranteed to Hotel Moscow. He sent a mercenary group after the Lagoon Company, who was transporting a very important package for Balalaika. Not only did the Lagoon Company destroy the mercenary group, Balalaika disposed of Chin in a most unplesant manner.

After this business with Chin things began to unravel at the seams, the peaceful time negotiated by the mobs falls into ruin, and Balalaika couldn't be happier. She uses the chaos to grab more power for her group, and at the same time appear to be the savior of Roanapur. When she kills the Romanian twins, Hansel and Gretel, hired by the Italians for the same reason Chin hired mercenaries, she does all of Roanapur a favor, for the children were demented and knew nothing but violence. After this she moves into Japan to aid on group of Yakuza against anothre and ends up destroying them both.
Other Notes: Balalaika and her men are probably the most efficient of any of the gangs, man to man they are no better, but as a group they function as a military unit. A feat that no other syndicate can duplicate, though the Triad comes close.
