London, England, sometime in the near future. Having finally gotten many of his own personal demons exorcised, and having settled [at least in his mind] his issues with Hell, and the being who calls himself Lucifer, in particular, John Constantine has settled down into a fairly relaxed routine. A routine that is about to be disrupted. When rumors of goings on in the United States reach his ears, thanks to his many contacts, he reacts with indifference. But when a well known snitch comes to him with more concrete news, John is spurred into action. It seems that the 'champion' of sorts for the USA, one Dante Sparda, son of the Legendary Sparda, has gone missing. Has, in fact, been missing for three whole years. According to the snitch, the demons he once kept in check in Los Angeles are running rampant, and the once busy city now lies in ruins. Curious, John starts to actively investigate. And runs across still more rumors, these ones causing him some concern. It seems that several different demon kings have found loopholes to get onto the human realm, though it should be impossible for them. This is a concern to John, primarily because he's pissed many of them off on repeated occasions. Add the missing kid to that equation, the only one who could probably keep them in check, and that's a powder keg just waiting to blow sky high. Alone, with none of his one time allies to call on, John's going to have to face this alone. It seems he's burned all his bridges this time, having been disowned by the last remaining Constantine: his niece, Gemma... add to that the fact that his former best mate would love nothing more than to kill him just as soon as look at him, and you're beginning to see why John's starting to feel a little desperate. He can't approach family, and he's loathe to talk to the prickily cabbie, no matter how close their former friendship was. Nice one, John. Heading to the states, to Los Angeles first, he hopes to track down the one remaining person who just might be able [and willing] to help him out. But the trail's years cold, and not even demons, who know the scent of the traitor's blood, seem to be able to find the traitor's son. But John's had worse odds... he just can't think of any at the moment.... Heaven and Hell are once again at odds. The stakes are quite high: They're playing for keeps for thousands upon thousands of unwitting souls. With portals and gates that have began to open the world over, demons are starting to prowl the nights. What many once believed were only myths, and to be laughed at, are now actually there. Those unexplained bumps in the night should be feared. But nothing is as it seems. Those portals also allow many of the heavenly beings through to the human realm... But one can't always trust who they think they can -- or who their religion says they can. A dark time has come upon Heaven, as the darkest of plots is actually from an insider, not a demon at all. And not all of the demons, despite their terrible appearance, should be feared. Dante's allies, struggling to keep the city of Los Angeles to be completely engulfed in darkness must struggle to sort who's who, learning to trust some of those that dwell in the very dark, and to shy away from some of those who shine the brightest. Dante's been missing three long years, and recently his twin brother has been said to be seen again, though he was once thought dead. Add to that the rumor that a long dead demon king has risen, and is once again looking to exact his own brand of justice.... making it very difficult to determine exactly who's side he's on, and the few who fight for the city have their hands full. If this particular demon king has indeed risen, it will cause a revolution in the demon world. Many hate him, because he helped to bring about their downfall eons ago. Yet many also admire his strength and lust after his power. And if the rumors hold true, his behavior casts doubt as to just who's side he's now on. And now, just when things can't seem to get any darker for those who fight, chaos strikes. A portal to Hell, opened right in the heart of Los Angeles lays the rest of the city to waste, and unleashes many powerful beings locked away for millennia. Much like the disaster with the Tower of Temen-ni-gru, it's destroyed buildings, unleashed demons, and other ancient creatures. Unlike the other tower, it does not need to be unsealed to open a portal to Hell. The moment it raised, that portal opened, giving demons, starting with those from the lesser circles, access to the human world. As it's power increases, more powerful demons can pass through. Eventually even those from the ninth circle will be able to journey to the human realm, essentially transforming the earth into another portion of Hell. And now our two stories collide.... Having been in the USA already, and on his way to Los Angeles, John picks up his pace, hoping to be able to delay the more powerful beings from entering this world. But he's not alone in his quest. Powerful beings from both sides have also appeared, each fighting to seal -- or permanently open -- the portal. Welcome to Los Angeles.... the city where dreams are made and broken... ... but broken dreams will be the least of anyone's worries when this all blows over.... |
