Warning, the following posts may contain mature content, reader discretion is advised. Also, if you are offended by any of this, just don't read it. Flaming will not be tolerated here! This is a serious discussion so only continue if you are able to read it with maturity! ========================================================= Alright, this is a thread to look at the various 'controversial relationships' and discuss/debate them. You can share your opinions in whatever environment you want, ie, real life, a theoretic scientific eventuality, past, present, future, or whatever else. The main subjects of this debate are: Homosexual Bisexual Intra-Family (brother-sister, cousins, parent-child, etc) Age specific Note: Relationships herein are of the intimate type, so continue knowing this and be warned. This thread does not condone illegal activities in any way. Any relationships debated here are assumed that all participants in the relationship are fully knowing and willing. This is not a place to discuss religious standing, only in a moral and legal standpoint. I guess I'll start things off by saying that in my opinion mature individuals who know what they are doing and love each other, no matter their age, relationship, number, or gender, should be allowed to do what they like. |

You have got me, I must agree with you, but may we look now, at why they are not allowed by society of all things. Personally I think fear is what leads us to shake our heads to these kinds of relationships, but I may be wrong, what do you think. |

Well, yeah, fear plays a huge part in human society. Especially in the cases of relationships involving younger people. Many societies actually believe you an adult at the age of 13, which is the fact regarding hormones. Actually, sometimes someone can become hormonally mature earlier than that, and in the wild, that's all you need. In human society though, we have the 'love' conundrum, which complicates things to no end. If say, genetics were not a problem, I figure that humans would quickly stop caring about genetically close partners. When it comes to age though, one of the biggest preconceptions is that the younger party doesn't know what is going on, which is why the age of adulthood in many aspects is set so high I think. |

Very true, have you done research into this or is this just things you have noticed while going about your life? I can't help but feel annoyed by the fact that people find those younger than a level determined several generations back, to be incapable of choosing a partner, if that age limit were not there I know of a few people who could be together now, btw I'm Irish, so some of my facts may differ. |

I haven't done any research really, it's just an analysis of my experiences. Also, pretty much regardless of where you are, it's mostly the same, you have to wait till society deems both parties old enough or there are serious consequences. I mean, a friend of mine won't even consider dating someone 4 years younger than him now, and he's 16 (the girl matured early, and knows what's going on also, in fact, I know a few people she's dated) I told him that later, when it doesn't matter anymore, you'd hardly notice the difference, but he was adamant on the subject. |

Man, that's just not cool for him, me and my best friend, she is only my friend because we live on opposite sides of the country and so dating would be hard, are trying to find a way to get away from these laws. So far, marriage is impossible at our age, me being the older of us at 16, so I thought, "Are there laws restricting engagement?", do you know? Because I have other friends in such situations as mine. |

Hmm... I wouldn't know, but quite possibly not. In America at least I'm pretty sure engagement is all a matter between the people, and has no legal standing what so ever. Though you should probably look into it on your end. |

HA! My first step to beating the stupid system, but now, back to the topic at hand, what can we do to help people in these ruts, I am speaking now, about all publicly unaccepted relationships. There must be a way of getting people to see? |

Well, when one person speaks, the world listens, or so they say... I guess the only way to get the word out is to actually do so, talk about it, post in forums, blogs, chatrooms, and the like. Eventually if enough people want change, it will come. The problem we face is convincing the people who aren't involved in such a relationship... Personally, I'm not, but I believe. I have no idea how to do that though... |
