Now we all know this would probabaly never have happened back in 1500s 1600s, but still its something thats debated and contested alot so I would bring it here.

Now despite the knight being mostly unhittable under his inches of platemail the Samurai were able to achieve similiar things (To a point) with more flexebility. Who do you think would have won in each of the Following.

On Foot
Bow:Samuria
Sword:Samuria
Spear:Samuria

On Horseback
Bow:Samuria
Sword:Knight
Spear:Samuria

Although the Knights were well trained and respected, the Samurai Dedicated their lives to the perfection of their arts, archery and swordmenship seemed to be their best feat, but i gotta say, i think its up to the warriors themselves.

I agree a bastard sword is no joke it could easiyl tear through samurai armor. But the samurai had manuvrability. Thus it be a great match up I am more imclined to believe that samurai would win for the said fact after the seperation edict the samurai nothing but time on their hads during poeace so they did nothing but train. Where as a knight only did so in tourneys not a very good way of training. Samurai often challegen and fought each other to the death to prove ones skill. Knights usually just fought till the winner got more points than the other

On Foot
Bow:Samurai
Sword:tie
Spear:Knight

On Horseback
Bow:Samurai (Knights are almost never trained, this is a samurais most valuable skill)
Sword: Knight, very close, its just the armor and all crossed with the samurai's loss of agility and all...
Spear: Knight

Regarding swords on foot, while Katana may be very strong and sharp, its not enough to best thick plate. The bastard sword, could, very well rip through a samurai with one swing. All in all, that one is based purely on skill.
Samurai are the only ones commonly trained with normal bows.
Spears, this gives knights an edge, samurai would use either Glaives or a more conventional, lets say its the more conventional kind. Knights' spears, on the other hand, usually had an axe on one end, a spear tip, and a hammer. The effectiveness of this spear (Accompanied by further training with the weapon) mean that knights pwn there, with the ability to quickly disarm their foe, that, and a several foot long spear is hard to jab between plates.
The bow thing with the horse, this is no contest, Knights usually cant even do this!
Knights gain an edge when riding on a horse, many, specializing in horseback combat (*Cough* Cavalry *cough*) So while the knight may be less dextrous, the samurai loses its edge in speed. And again, better weapons and training on horseback for knights give them one more edge.
