Die & Be Reborn

In some parts of religion, it is believed that when a person dies, they will be reborn again as something from their past lives. One island was proof that this was and still is true: Warship Island. Legend has it that every 1000 years, a thought-to-be extinct group of dragons named the Sennenryu, get together and die to be reborn again at a place called Dragon's Nest.

Some pirates wouldn't be interested in hearing any of this nonsence. But to Victoria, captain of the Band of the Scorpion, this was a great way to make more gold and money by proving that did or did not exist. Relunctly, her crew were forced to go along with her hair-brained scheme. Kilik, who sometimes would not go along with her quick-rich schemes, acted surprisingly tolerant. This is because Victoria knew Kilik had a secret liking to dragons, and wanted to see them himself.

As they sailed on the ship, the crew did want they wanted until they reached the island. Kilik sat silently on the top deck, playing with his violin. Victoria was controlling the ship, silently singing to Kilik's music. Yaiba was training in his own little spot, slashing the air around him. Kukku sat in the kitchen, making food for the crew, smiling to herself. Yun & Yang sat beside Kilik, one playing the cello & the other playing the flute. Tara sat on the tower of ship, staring out into the horizon. Arashi, stood on the ship, speaking with Ina. Zweig, was the only one in the bottom deck, who was writing in his journal.

Victoria, looking out, saw the island, quickly approaching. Smiling, she quickly headed towards it. As they landed on the island, all of the crew departed the ship. Victoria looked at everyone. "Okay, we've arrived on Warship Island, so we all know what we have to do, right?" she asked. The crew nodded. Victoria nodded. "Good. So, all of the men shall go explore the island, while the women stay here and guard the ship." All of the women instantly agreed.

Yun & Yang stood shocked, while Kilik remained silent with his eyes closed. Victoria looked at them. "Is there a problem?" she asked. "Of course there is!" Yun exclaimed. "How can you send us on this unknown island by ourselves?!" Yang quickly joined in. "Yeah! And besides, we don't know how big this island is." Victoria smiled sweetly. "You'll be alright. My intitution says so." she said. Yun & Yang were ready to protest more, but Kilik grabbed the collars of their shirts.

"Quit arguing with the captain and let's go." he ordered. Yun & Yang sighed as they started walking with Kilik. The girls waved at them. "If you find any treasure, be sure to bring it back!!" Victoria shouted after them. The men sighed to themselves as they departed into the island.

As the ship slowly came to a halt, the youngest member of the crew slowly put the cleaning gear in the closet. As the deck was now clean, he could join the others and observe their new destination. A happy smile could be seen on the face of the youngster as his big green eyes looked at the island that had the silouete of a giant ship. Amazed by such a shape as he up until now never even left his town, not to speak to sail around the east blue and go to new islands.

"Wow, this is beautful..."

As he wanted to make a step forward Neil caught himself and stopped in his tracks as if someone braked him to a halt.

"Uummm Kaizoku-senshu?"

He spoke in an uncertain tone as he looked to his right, the beautiful captain stood and gave orders to her crew. offcourse Neil waited until she was finished with giving orders. And with that he spoke.

"So should I stay behind too, or leave with the other men?"

Although he was without a doubt the weakest member of the crew, Neil was a man, so in order to not break her order he had to make sure. After all, if one asked him, he was probably better of to stay behind on the ship. but in any case it was all up to the captain so the young boy would do as he is told.

As the men were searching the island, the women sat by the island, lying on the sand, enjoying themselves as they tanned in the sun. As they were tanning, they heard someone screaming. Victoria, taking off her sunglasses, sighed. "Probably the boys again." she said. "I can't send them out to do anything." Arashi looked at Victoria. "Do you think it was okay to send them out alone?" she asked. "I'm kind of worried about them." Ina smirked. "Aww. Worried something might happen to Kilik?" she asked, teasingly. Arashi blushed as the girls laughed. Victoria then looked at Neil as he stayed behind. "You can stay with us, hun." she said. "We need someone to serve us, anyway." she said, laughing as she rubbed his head.

Meanwhile, the men, which was: Kilik, Yun, Yang, Zweig & Yaiba, slashed their way through the jungle on the island. Yun sighed as he wiped the sweat off his head. "I don't see why we're out here, while the girls are back on the ship." he complained. "Tell me about it." Yang agreed. "We're always sent on the dirty jobs." Yaiba continued slashing the vines in the way. "Hey, look on the bright side." he said. The four men looked at him. "This only further proves men are superior to women in every shape and form." he said, arrogantly. Kilik stopped and looked at him. "I'll be sure to report that to the captain herself." he said as he resumed slashing. Yaiba scowled at Kilik. "Snitch." he mumbled. "I know you are, but what am I?" Kilik asked, without stopping. Yaiba growled, but did nothing. Zweig laughed to himself as the men continued in the forest.

Taking a seat the newest member leaned against a tree. The shades of it partly covered his body, mostly his shoulders and face, while his lower body was exposed to the sun. For a few minutes the boy enjoyed the sun, and then looked into the direction of Ina.

"Um Kukku-san, what exactly can be found on this island?"

He asked a bit quiet, as he only knew that something valuable might be on this island. But as he didn't wish to be too curious he didn't ask much. But seeming that they were now here, it couldn't really be bad to tell him a little bit about it.

"Ow and do you think that it would be alright if I asked Yun-san to teach me how to use guns?"

He asked a bit ashamed because of the fact that he was still so unfamiliar in their ways, and all of them were just so smooth about it.

The women sat around talking to each other. Kukku then came from the ship with a plate full of drinks. "Lemonade?" she asked to the crew. The girls smiled and took one from the plate. Kukku then walked to Neil and handed him one. She smiled at him as she sat down. She looked at him as she asked him about the island. "Well, its said that every 1000 years, dragons on this island who died will be reborn and gather here." she explained. "We sent the men out to find proof of that." She sat down, drinking her lemonade. He looked at Neil again as he asked her something. "Well, he could. But if you don't want him. You could ask Ina. She's pretty good as well." Ina was talking to Arashi, heard her name and looked at Kukku. "What about me?" she asked. Kukku looked at her, smiling sweetly. "Neil here needs someone to teach him how to be a marksman." Ina smiled and instantly stood up. "Sure." she said, picking Neil and posiitioning him correctly. "I warn you, I'm a very strict teacher." she said, smiling.

The men looked around as they continued slashing at the trees and vines in their ways. They looked as they entered a clearing and found some water. Yun & Yang ran to it, drinking from it happily. Kilik, Zweig & Yaiba walked and sat down as they wiped the sweat from their foreheads. "So, what exactly are we suppose to be looking for?" Yaiba asked, looking at Kilik. "We're supposed to be looking for treasure or proof that dragons exist on this island." he said as he sat cross-legged. "I know that. I'm just wondering if there are even dragons on this place." Yun, who finished drinking, looked at Yaiba. "Well, historians have said that dragons gather here ever 1000 years." he explained. "We need to bring back proof of dragons or at least some kinda reward." Yang said. Kilik stood up. "With that said, let's keep moving." "Right." the men said as the continued wandering the island.

Neil took the lemonade as a smile came over his face.

"Thank you Kukku-san."

He bowed his head once politely. The captains niece was the closest one to his own age so Neil did see her as someone he could talk to a bit easier then the others. Maybe it also was the fact that Kukku wasn't so intimidating as the other members of the Band of the Scorpions. And as Ina warned him about being a strict teacher and smilled Neil did the same.

"I'm glad you're willing to teach me. Thank you Ina-san."

He said, not really knowing just how strict Ina was, but despite the fact that Neil was of such gentle nature, he could become a strong man, if enough effort was put into him.

The men of the crew continued walking along the island, searching for artifacts. As they were walking, Yun yelped as he tripped over something and fell on the ground. Yang looked at him and laughed. "And Victoria has the nerve to say I need to be coordinated!" he said, laughing. "If only she could see you now." Yun glared and stood up, wiping himself off. "For your information, I didn't fall. I tripped over something." he said. Zweig, his curosity piqued, walked to where Yun fell and put his staff down, feeling on the hard exterior of the dirt. "It feels like something hard." he said, knocking on it. "I think we may have found a treasure." he said, smirking.

Meanwhile, back at the ship, Ina gave Neil a small wooden bow and an arrow in it. Where he was pointing to, was a target. Ina stood there watching him. "Remember, if you fail, that's another 100 push-ups." she said. Kukku looked at Neil worried. Tara looked at her. "Don't worry. Ina may be harsh, but she's not merciless." she said. Though she said to Kukku to cheer her up, Tara wasn't completely all that sure.

Assuming the proper pose, with his left foot forward Neil knew that much, he did see Ina-san practise here and there so he, in his mind, memorised the steps when using a bow. Pulling the arrow back until the end, the boy fingers started burning as his grip on the string was slightly wrong, and it cut his index finger.

"Arrghhh..."

He gritted his teeth as the arrow was fired of due to the intense pain that made him unable to hold it any longer. The lucky shot, one could say, went towards the mark, and hit, with about 40% acuracy. Not really great, considering that it was a bit more luck then skill, as the spiky haired boy looked on. His face going a bit red at the sight of such a bad shot.

"I'm sorry, Ina-san."

His eyes went towards the ground, as he thought that he wasn't good enough to even be a marksman, something he sort of had an afinity for. His proper reflexes and aim were well enough for it, but his body was not used to such a way of using a weapon, so the only solution was training, and the rookie pirate was aware of that.

"Sensei? May I try again?"

He spoke with a little more confidence in himself this time, as he would like to try and give it another shot.

The men began digging in the spot Zweig pointed out. He advised them to dig in two seperate spots, so they'd find things more easily. They Kilik, Yaiba, & Zweig were one group, while Yun & Yang were the other. They continued digging, wiping the sweat from their foreheads as they sun beat down on them. They continued digging until, Yaiba's shovel hit something. "There's something here." he said. He then put his hands on the object and dug it out. All the men gathered around as they looked to see it was a fossil. Zweig gathered close and looked as he couldn't believe it. Yaiba was holding a real life dragon fossil.

Ina stood as she looked at Neil as he messed up again. She sighed as he looked at the cut on his hand. She then silently kissed his finger where the scratch was. "Its okay." she said, as he apologized. The girls looked on with interest. "When I first began, I had trouble as well. But my father taught me a good quote that helped me. And this is what it was." Ina took her bow and shot an arrow right into the target. "Every shot told." she said, looking at Neil. Ina looked as Neil wanted to try again. She smiled at him. "Very well, but if you miss again, you'll have to do 200 push-ups." she said.

Inspired by the words of his current teacher Neil took another shot. This time however he took a slightly different method to his shooting. While he did observe Ina's skill on several ocasions he knew that what he saw back then was something for advanced archers.

"Alright then."

The target was once again in front of him, as he tok the bow and arrow, getting ready. His stance was the proper one, left foot in front of him, while his right hand put the arrow in place. This time however he took more grip on the very end of the arrow as he pulled it back which made far less trouble to his aiming. As he came all the way back, he closed his left eye and slightly raised the bow, making an almost perfect set up for a shot.

"There!"

He thought to himslef as he released the arrow, which suprisingly went and hit the mark. AN expert would judge his shot with about 95%, off course if one kept in mind his level, the conclusion would be that Neil was either very lucky or quite a gifted student. Lowering the weapon Ina-sensei provided the spiky haired boy turned around with a happy smile on his face. Looking at his teacher he asked.

"How was that?"

Looking at the fossil, Zweig was fasinated. He snatched the fossil from Yaiba's head, making Yaiba scowl at him for being rude. Zweig took out his maginfy glass and looked at it. "This fossil..." he started off. "... has to been over 10,000 years old!" he exclaimed, excited. Yang looked at him, surprised. "10,000 years? Is this island that old?" he asked. Yun looked at him. "Well, this island does have dragons come on it every 1,000 years. So, it has to be atleast 100 centuries old." he explained. "That dragon fossil must be one of a million more dragon fossils on this island." Kilik said. "It'd take a good 10 days to dig up all of the island by ourselves." Zweig looked at him. "Maybe. But for now, let's just keep digging some more to see if there are any others." The boys nodded, and continued digging, hopefully.

Ina looked at Neil's determintion and pasture. She then looked at his shot as it wasn't exactly on the mark, but in the middle nontheless. Smiling, she looked at Neil. "Excellent work." she said. She then took an Kukku got for her and put it on top of Neil's head. She took an arrow and bow. "But to be a true archer," she started. Ina then fired the arrow and it hit the apple on Neil's head. It hit a tree, spliting it into fours. "...you must also be completely accurate. Your shot was off by atleast 5%." she walking up, and taking a piece of the apple. "But nonetheless, you did well." she said, biting it and a piece of it to Neil.

Quite shocked at the moves of his sensei Neil didn't manage to hide his fascination for the exceptionally high skill of Ina.

"Wow that was amazing."

To him this was all so fascinating as he couldn't even dream that dragons could have ever existed, and that people of such strengh, heart and personality trully existed. Bowing to show his respect the young spiky haired boy smilled.

"Thank you for you effort."

Taking out another arrow the youngster took another shot, this time inspired by the skill of Ina he made a serious face as the arrow went off. This time the rank would 95%, perhaps 96% if one kept in mind that he was a novice, and that he pretty much halved the time to shoot the arrow then last time. His growth rate was something the crew would soon notice. Yes this young boy could indeed become a valuable asset to the Band of the Scorpion.

Ina bit into the apple again and looked as Neil complimented her. She smiled and rubbed his head. "It takes hard work, kid." she said. "You'll get better soon. That, I know." She looked at him as he bowed and she bowed back in respect. Ina looked again as the boy took another shot, increasing his accuracy by one percent. She smiled as she watched his determintion. On the beach, Victoria looked at the sky as it was nearing dusk. "The sun's going down, and the boys still aren't back yet." Arashi said, looking worried. "I know. Its not like them to be gone this late." Kukku said, looking at the sky, also worried. Victoria looked at them. "Don't worry. I know those five. They'll be alright." she said. But in her mind, she was also worried. "Atleast, I hope so." she thought.

"So, tell me again how we got into this mess?" Yang said, looking frustated and upset as his hands were tied together, as he was back-to-back with Yun. "Simple." Yun stated. "We were digging for fossils of dragons and while we were, we were ambushed by a group of unknown warriors, who beat us and tied us into a cave for reasons unknown to us." he said, with a non-caring attitude. Yang growled and looked at him. "I didn't need a summary." Yun looked back at him. "But you asked for one." Yang growled. "Would the two of you knock it off for five seconds, so I can think?!" Yaiba yelled at the two of them, as he was tied up and his back was to Kilik's. The brothers then hushed.

"Damn it. If they hadn't taken our swords, we'd be out of here in a flash." Yaiba said as he was wiggling around. "Well, there is nothing to do, but wait and see if we can't talk this out and reach a compromise." Zweig said, who was bounded up against a wall. "Compromise?! I'll show them a f*ckin compromise, when I get out of these ropes, and beat the hell out of them!" Yaiba yelled as he continued wiggling around. Yun looked up. "Kilik, you're awfully quiet." he said, looking at him. Kilik had his head down, his hair covering his face. "Ah, just ignore him. The big baby's probably just mad cause he lost." Yaiba said, smirking. They all then heard a snore and would have did an anime fell if they were bounded. Kilik had fallen asleep while being captive.

And indeed night fell upon the pirate crew and all of its members, while their guests only introduced themselves to one part of the crew. Neil on the other hand was given a glove to use during his training, and indeed the thing helped. The pain was now decreassed to a point where it didn't influence his aim. Therefore what he lacked at this point was simple training. But as night broke over the crew, he finished his training for the day and joined the female part of the crew.

"Ina-sensei, when do you think the guys are going to return?"

He asked politely while placing the bow and all the arrows back next to the person who gave it to the rookie pirate.

The women of the crew, looked at the sky as the sun had gone down and the moon was slowly rising. They all looked worried. Ina looked at Neil as he asked her when would the boys return. "I don't know." she said. "I hope soon." Victoria then stood up. "Alright guys, listen up!" she shouted, getting everyone's attention. "Its clear that something has happened to the boys, as they are awfully late. Therefore, its our mission as the more dominate species to go search and rescue them!" The girls cheered as they prepared to walk into the jungle. Victoria touched Neil's head. "That includes you to, kid." she said, smiling.

Zweig sighed as he hung from the wall. "You know, its times like these that make me wonder why I didn't just stay on the ship." he complained. Yaiba looked at him. "If you've got time to complain, you've got time to think." he said. "We need to figure a way out of here." Yaiba looked at Kilik, who was still asleep. He growled. "If I weren't bound next to you, I'd kick your ass by now." Kilik simply snored in response. Yaiba growled as he tried to move around. Yun, Yang, & Zweig all laughed. Yaiba glared. "What's so damn funny?!" he shouted. The boys then stopped and Kilik woke up. "Glad to see you've joined us, idiot." Yaiba said. "Maybe now you can figure a way to get us out of this mess." Kilik looked and yawned. "Sorry. No clue." he said. "The only thing we can do is wait and see if the girls will arrive to save us." Yaiba scoffed. "I doubt it."
