Room of a Thousand Fountains; Zaarua & Skye

The Room of a Thousand Fountains was a sight to behold to anyone new to the temple. It was a giant greenhouse several stores tall filled with the most exotic trees and plants from across the galaxy, in amongst them one thousand fountains were hidden off the sides of paths or in direct view giving meditation refuge for all Jedi alike.

It was with very room that two new hopefuls were about to experience the beginnings of the Jedi path and step onto the path to their destiny. Master Kai Se'lba was sitting crossed legged on a large rock beside a large fountain that fired water 10 feet into the air peacefully allowing it to curtain down to the base and gently splash as the water landed in itself again.

In front of him two mats were occupied by the contrasting figures of the Human Skye Kovani and the Wookie Zaarua. One small and tender the other larger and covered fully in hair, each facing the Bothan Master diligently.

"My pupils I hope this location is suited to the both of you. I felt today a place of tranquillity and inspiration was needed for what I have in store for you both.

“Careful of your ambitions you should be Zaarua, the emotions it can bring up with such a demand in oneself can lead to tainted thoughts and feelings. A path to the dark side and a path to destruction it could lead to, though your ambitions as mindful and achievable. I feel you shall achieve greatness in your time with the Jedi and I feel that you are already well on your path to fulfilling your wishes. To my next question it seems, What…”

Just as Se’lba was starting his question a sudden flash of feelings and through filled Zarruas mind blocking out his Masters words. They were of pain and despair, the warm feeling from his Master was replaced with a feeling of cold and anger though only for the smallest amount of time until they faded into blandness. Silence seemed to echo in his own head as none of his thoughts seemed to have volume or substance to them there was simply nothing in his mind, he was trapped unable to open his eyes, unable to move a muscle in his mental prison.

“Skye failure is a part of the every day way of life, we learn from mistakes and failings and learn to further ourselves and to adapt so not to repeat our mistakes. Fearing failure is apart of everyone and everything in the universe, even myself fear failure at times. Though if you are confident in yourself and are mindful you will learn and grow, you must always remember that Skye you must learn to grow and everything will fall into place. How are…”

As like Zaarua the same thing happened at the exact same time for Skye, the flood of feelings and thoughts of raw emotion and hatred filled her mind for a fraction of a second, though for Skye it was slightly clearer the images of the thoughts, faces in pain and fear flashed in a red hue in her minds eye before they flashed away into nothing. Her mind was trapped locked in itself the same as Zaarua her body rigid as her nerves seemed to stop themselves from functioning.

Unknowing to the pair of young ones was what condition Se’lba was in or what had happened to the other. Being unable to move or to even open their eyes and call out they knew nothing of what was going on and what the situation was. Things did not look good now as the unknowing became greater with each ticking second.

What...what happened? Zaarua's first reaction of panic hit suddenly as he was able to hear his thoughts once more. He could feel his heat beating rapidly beneath his chest after the first time in his life where he had feared for his life. What kind of power was it? Zaarua shouted inside his head leaving it to echo out. It was then that the fear hit him again as he realised he was still under the power; he struggled to lift his arm, or even lift a finger, trying to break out of its hold with pure brute force but even his wookie strength was no use as his digit didn't move. He was trapped, trapped within himself.

Having forgotten all the calmness and tranquility which were needed to be a jedi, Zaarua was terrified of who or what could do such a thing as hold him still. In his panic, he didn't consider if the others were in the same position but his thoughts turned back to his Bothan Master. He'll save me...he's a jedi master...he can definitely save...he will definitely save me...won't he?...

Instantly there was a roar of emotion from within her, echoing outwards extremely with the force that would hit any force sensitive like a Blasteck blaster bolt to the gut, that was if they existed back then. She felt an overwhelming level of emotions rocking through her tiny little frame, fear, hate, pain... If she could move she would be on her knees by now. Her memories of her childhood, the slavery she had been forced into, the beatings and rapes she had to endure in the lower levels of Taris where snaking their way through her entire being.

"H...help me..."

Thats all that would cross her mind, if she was able to think from the paralysis she felt, a single tear got trapped within her eyelids, the acids within them burning her eyes as felt the sudden need to break down and cry. So much pain, to much, how could she deal with this? Is that what it meant to be a Jedi? She felt so alone, and couldn't imagine how those who were being put through the torment that she had just seen could survive it.

"Master please......"

“A dark mind……..Invading my mind……..can’t…control………Skye!...kill Skye…”
“A dark mind……..Invading my mind……..can’t…control………Zaarua!...kill Zaarua…”

Se’lbas voice was ragged and sounded as if he was in immense pain; he was still in the younglings minds at once as he spoke. Though more control seemed to return to the younglings as their eyes were both forced open by instinct upon regaining control of their bodies.

The sight before them was that of horror Se’lbas body was sitting in the spot that it had remained in though the only difference was his head was lying beside it severed with a lightsabre blow. He looked peaceful in his headless corpse but now the two young ones had gained control of their bodies fully and the telepathic link was severed abruptly like a bucket of water thrown over them. Neither knew what had happened or what was said or who truly said those words.

A mixture of relief and alertness flooded through Zaarua's body causing all the hairs covering his body to stand erect. The relief was derived from Zaarua being able to move his limbs once more as light flooded in to his eyes after they snapped open but the feeling of alarm was much greater as his Master's voice echoed in his head whilst Zaarua stared at the abandoned Bothan head.

"No!" Zaarua cried, he first word that had jumped to his mind. The simple yearning for the image of the head, lying disjointed from the neck, to be false; to be a fake. Emotions flooded Zaarua's system; fear, disbelief...blame. Who? WHO? Anger surged through his whole body but through the red haze of anger, Zaarua saw the expression on his deceased Master's face; he looked peaceful and in harmony with the world, just like how a jedi should be. It was as if the anger drained out of the Wookie's body completely as his mind began thinking more clearly and he turned to his padawan partner, the human female.

"Waoo...waoo rooohu orwhoooh ohacraao acraakakwowhwowa?" He asked her in Shyriiwook, hoping that she'd understand fully or at least partially. "Do you know what happened?" He asked her again in his guttural tone.

She simply fell to her knees, if she could get lower she would, her eyes budging within her skull, as if the only thing keeping them within it was sheer will power. The voice wasn't hers, she had never had such thoughts, she knew that much, and the force was meant to be good, unless... Was she turning to the dark side? She had a lot of fear within her, it was very likely. Could she of done that without even noticing? So paralysed by what she had experienced that she didn't even realize what she was doing?

"I... I don't know"

her voice was trembling almost as much as her body was, she didn't know what to say, she couldn't believe what she was seeing. His head, it was no longer attached to his Bothan body, a single tear falling from her eyes as she gazed at him. She had seen many dead bodies in her time as a slave, but this was different, she knew this man, she cared for him as if he was a father, cause he was the closest thing she had ever had to having one.

"He... he's dead! What do we do?"

The words of Se’lba floated into their young minds again. Each was instructed in his last words to kill the other, the dark presence was his undoing ..was it one of these young ones? Was the other playing the other deceiving their true intent and their actions that resulted in the death of their Master?

“Kill”

The word was so loud in their heads it wouldn’t float away in the flood of their emotions. Zaarua had most certainly felt an incredibly strong ripple in the Force from Skyes reactions. Were they merely theatrics to fool him into his next victim? Even to Skye she had known that Wookies could be savage at times and she didn’t understand the majority of his words making them seem hostile towards her in his frantic panic.

The key to this mystery was each others lack of knowledge of their discussion to Se’lba and what was said and felt. Everything was now a Mystery of the Force and a mystery of unknown, what was going on and was the other of the two the culprit?

The word echoed in Zaarua's head "Kill".....Kill......................Kill..............................." His mind became more resolute as he was given his last instruction from his Master. It had been Skye that had killed him! She was the one who had betrayed their master, betrayed Zaarua...betrayed the Jedi! She had shed a tear but had it been a tear of sadness...or a tear of joy? She was acting! Zaarua was certain of it and now he would serve justice!

"SCHURCWAWORCWORC!" He roared as he ran at Skye, his eyes filled with rage once more. "MURDERER!" He continued shouting his battle cry as he closed in on her; he didn't reach for his training saber but instead raised one of his colossal arms and struck down, his claws emerging from within the fur on his hands. "WAAHWO! DIE!" He could see nothing but her fake facade as the red hues of anger began to cloud his vision. The image of his master's head lying on the ground stuck in his head as he swiped down. He would kill her for killing his Master! He wanted REVENGE!

She was shaken up, seeing the huge wookiee running towards her, but she couldn't move, she had been frozen on the spot, shaking her head, whispering to herself. "No... it can't of been me, it wasn't me" She opened her eyes to look upon the running wookiee, extending her hand, letting the force flow from her body, outwards towards the wookiee, hoping to use her telekinesis to stop her partner in his tracks, she didn't want to hurt him, she didn't think it was him, it couldn't be either of them right? No way their master could of been killed by either of them without the other noticing.

"we didn't do this Zaarua, so we need to figure out who did"

Her mind seemed to be slightly more focused, though the sneaking feeling that it was all wrong, that maybe she was wrong was their, but she fought it back, she had to. She could not sort this if her mind was a mess.

The viciously violent claws of Zaarua dragged through the air as they gained on Skye, though as fast as they were going they were also slowing down, they were mere centimetres from her delicate face when his hand stopped.

Skye was lucky enough to have caught the incoming blow just in time as for that strength and edge her face would have been torn apart. It was taking all her will to keep the lumbering Wookie at bay as he forced down and down to beat her concentration.

While in the stand mate things seemed to be different than they were before earlier in the morning, the sounds were different and the feel of the whole environment was off for some odd reason, it was only a small feeling that had crept into both minds through their senses and the feelings of the Force. For Skye it was through her extra concentration that she picked up the noise of the water fountain seeming to be a different tone than it was before and for Zaarua his natural connection with nature and unique perspective it was his connection through the Force that seemed to be different than it was. Coincidence or another trick?

My hand...stopped? Zaarua thought to himself, utterly suprised. He had been ready to kill this girl, rip her to shreds to avenge their Master but what had heppened? She looked towards the human girl and saw her face, full of concentration, and then it occured to him that she was stopping him. This little puny figure was holding him back, completely stopping his movement. He began to push harder against her, trying to break the stalemate as he roared, trying to cleave her flesh with his claws.

Suddenly something changed. He instantly felt it, a change in his link with nature. He couldn't feel the plants growing around him, or the trees gently moving with the wind. Something that he'd felt for his whole life was suddenly changed, completely distorted. He stopped concentrating on murdering the girl as this was much more important to him. His link with nature was part of being a wookie, part of being him. He could feel certain aspects of the forest surrounding the pair more strongly but as he reached out with the Force he notice the difference. The Force itself seemed different to him; he couldn't work out how but it had been altered and his connection with all the living things around him had been weakened.

The realisation hit Zaarua hard in his chest as he let out a wail of mourning. His connection with nature had been a defining part of himself but now it was gone, lost forever. Or was it? He didn't know if it was gone forever. He would regain it! But who had done it? Skye was a padawan like himself wasn't she? Could she have done this? Did she have the knowledge to do this? Many questions ran through Zaarua's mind whilst he tried to block out the emptiness that had opened up inside him. He stopped pushing against Skye as he wanted answers, this was much more crucial to him.

"Did you do it?" Zaarua's voice was calmer due to his doubt that Skye could have. "Waahwa rooohu?" The emptiness was beginning to consume him, how could he live without the feeling of nature around him, the feeling of a chasm within himself, an inegral part of himself missing.

"I assure you, it was not me, or at least, I don't think it was me, I would know, wouldn't I? Looking at you, I don't think it was you..." she was stopped half sentence, hearing the change in flow of the water, turning her head to look around for the source of the change. "Something is different, can you feel it? " She asked thoughtfully, trying to figure out what is going on. She released the force hold she had on the Wookiee, and winced hoping that he wouldn't continue with the clawing, knowing that she would likely die if he decided to.

"We need to put our minds together, just make sure we know what we are dealing with, but something isn't sitting right" She turned her eyes to look at the wookiee, looking into his dark eyes. "I have a bad feeling about this" It was a cliche'd phrase, but it suited the situation to no end, everything in her gut told her something was wrong and she needed to figure out what it was.

She walked slowly over to where the body of her master lay, kneeling down next to him to see if it was real, to see if she was missing something. "What got you my master...?"

Se’lba though with his head now separated from his body had a small smile on his lips under his light fur. He was peaceful in death though his mental projections seemed frantic and decisive as he communicated to his two students; the lightsabre burn on his neck was still slightly smoking from the charred seared flesh and fur that had been slashed at.

A perfect horizontal cut was all that was used to severe his head from his shoulders, his body was still sitting perfectly with its legs crossed and hands resting gently on the knees as if a statue due to the sudden nerve severing locking his joints and muscles stiff, unmoving. For a brutal death it seemed quick and painless but still odd different.

The feelings the both students had still remained unchanged and Se’lba looked exactly the way he had before they closed their eyes just now headless; the only difference though was his lightsabre missing.

Zaarua's attacks didn't continue as his human partner released him from her hold. However, the feeling of emptiness did continue. A part of him was missing, a major part of him and Zaarua knew that he would never be the same without it. He searched the forest with his eyes, looking for a figure, another person who may have done this. His suspicions of Skye had completely evaporated as she went to kneel next to their dead master.

She too felt that something was wrong Zaarua picked up as he listened to her. What was affecting them? What had the power to do this? Was it another Jedi? Would a Jedi do this though? They needed to work it out...quickly.

He turned back to see Skye kneeling next to their master and he winced as he saw his master's head lying motionless on the floor; his sense of smell picked up the scent of charred flesh as he saw the exposed neck still smoking. It was then that he noticed a difference in the image from before. The lightsaber, the instrument of their Master's death, was gone.

"Aoacwo anahrracaocrarhworc!" He roared, running over towards Skye and the body. "Where is his lightsaber?" A feeling of fear crept over Zaarua and his fur stood upright all over his body. The murderer was definitely still around and now he was armed once again. He quickly looked around, searching for any movement or a definitive shadow. The fear made his senses feel more alive as he listened intently, trying to discern any faint breaths that the attacker could be making. "Rhwo oararcwowwhuan! Be very careful..." Zaarua whispered to Skye, his voice still deep and guttural, as he inspected their surroundings.

She looked at the cut, wincing momentarily as she saw the severity of it, most kids her age would of ended up throwing up, or feeling sick by seeing it. Her past had her prepared for such sights, so she was used to it. She began looking around to see if she could find the lightsaber that had caused the wound. Finding she couldn't see it, she closed her eyes and began stretching out in the force hoping that she would be able to feel something. Threads flowed from her connecting to every little thing, that was how she envisioned the force, like threads attaching her spirit to everything.

"I can not see the lightsaber, but I am trying to see if I can find it using the force, hopefully I'll get something!" She opened her eyes once more as she heard his concern for her, reaching out and touching his paw like hand, smiling slightly. "I'll do my best to be careful, can you feel anything? We're going to need to use both our sense if we are to get through this!"
