Prepare for the Future!

War, in a perfect galaxy it would be a thing of myth, but who wants perfection?

The battles of Final Frontier will occur the same as in most other MEs save for a couple things. Defenses.

Your planet has the ability to defend itself in space and on land; depending on your tier you will get a different number of 'Build Pads' that you can put a defensive structure on. This structure can be a city wide shield or a planetary defense battery, or something smaller like an anti infantry turret. Now depending on the size and what the structure does will determine how many build pads that are taken up.

Here is the number of build pads for tier size.

Land

Tier 1 - 8 pads.

Tier 2 - 6 pads.

Tier 3 - 4 pads.

Tier 4 - 2 pads.

Space

Tier 1 - 4 pads

Tier 2 - 3 pads.

Tier 3 - 2 pads.

Tier 4 - 1 pads.

Now the main difference between land and space is what can be built. On land you have more freedom to pick and choose what you want, while in space it’s what you build on your Space station, after you build the station first of course. While a 1 pad space station is more for keeping a lookout for enemy fleets, a 4 pad space station is a fully ready battle platform.

How they work

The things you put on your build pads do not really fight in the battle, they are merely used as a bonus. A "planetary defense battery" would fire blasts into space, giving your ships a bonus in a defensive space battle, whereas an anti infantry turret would give bonuses in defeating infantry troops landing on your territory. Here's an example:
So let’s say you and an enemy are fighting, you have no defenses built up and he has no generals.
so the battle would be, 0=0, no advantage to either side. But if you had a General, some Anti infantry turrets and a Anti armor turret... then it would be a like a + 2 to infantry and a +1 against armor. So the battle would be a 3=0, while your enemy could still win, it will be much more difficult and they will have to make better use of their tactics and numbers.

Now other things can be used, like you can, and should, build some kind of economic building, like a mine or a fission reactor to save energy, things of that sort. You can also build some sort of weapon of mass destruction, not like a death star, but a nuke or disease warfare. Now with every pro comes a con, if you do build an silo that shoots a missile from one planet to another then if it is captured your enemy can blow it up causing a great amount of damage to you, not to mention the hassle it will be to work with in your planetary upkeep.

Army Size Laws

Obviously one cannot have a planet with a population of 300,000 and realistically wield an army of 5,000,000. So therefore we have determined rules regarding the relative size of armies versus the population of the country.

- The size of a standing army may not go beyond 10% of the nations total population.
- It is recommended that the relative size stays below 10%, however, it is tolerable and acceptable for the size of an army to exceed 10%.
- The above rule may only be used until the total army size reaches 15% of the total population. Once that landmark is reached, any further army size increase must be attributed to the conscription of women and children. You will be frowned upon as a bastard without moral compunctions. Just kidding. Kind of.
- Your population cannot rebound in a a day. This is to say that after fighting a major war in which 10% of your population was killed, you cannot leave that war and start one immediately after with the same size population and army.
- Finally, an example of these rules:
You are the small Protoss outpost planet of Marn Ska. Your population numbers 500,000. You may have a standing army of 50,000 or 10% of your population. You declare war on Tuvalu. In the ensuing melee of unrealistic attacks, patriotism reaches all time highs on your planet. Your military can be at most 75,000. Congratulations. 50,000=10% + 25,000=5% = 75,000=15%. This vast army size may remain at such numbers for at most a year. Then it must go back down.

Keep in mind, Infantry Corps are generally limited to a maximum of 500,000 troops each.

Battle Maps
Obviously, every planet is very different, and as such will have very different terrain. It is up to you, the player, to design the terrain around your capital city in case an opposing force, be it player or NPC, lands their ground troops for an assault. In the ground war, they will attempt to take resources, or go for the whole shebang and capture your capital city. In this event, you have officially lost the planet, and must work with the resources and people of any other planets in your system, if any. The important thing is, however, to develop a map around your capital city for every planet you control. This can be done in photoshop, paint, whatever, as long as you get one done and in. The mods will keep it in reserve until necessary. Remember, your capital only need be a single, labeled dot, as with any other cities you have stationed nearby. You do not absolutely have to make your own map. If this is the case, the mods will make one for you, however, we are extremely busy people and will not do so with much effort (nor will we be very happy with you. ;) ) Therefore, we highly highly recommend you do it yourself and send the map to us via PM, where we will store it.

Facing Defeat
There's a couple things you can do once you have been utterly defeated, and your planet's ashes crumble beneath your feet as your enemies lay waste to the best your soldiers have to offer, bathing in their blood. The first is that you can accept defeat and die. If you do this, then feel free to make a new system. :) The second option, and much more interesting in my opinion, is to flee. Not very courageous when put that way, but at least you live to die another day, right? The mods will appoint a small number of your population and military that escapes the planet with you, and you will play as your Galactic Agent in the Exploration section, looking for a new home to colonize. Once you have found a new home, feel free to make a new System thread and name your colony, but you will be far from a planetary power, and will have to work your way up.

Why go down with the ship when you can try to fix it?
