General Information
Name: Rukia Kuchiki

Alias: None, unless you count the insulting one's from Ichigo or "nee-san" from Kon...she usually ignores both

Gender: Female

Age: 200

Birthdate: January 14

Birthplace: Kyoto, Japan

Current Residence: Her home is supposed to be the Kuchiki Manor in Soul Society, though she will often stay overnight somewhere in the Division 13 headquarters, and for a while she was technically living in Ichigo's closest.

History:

Arrival in Soul Society
Rukia died as a baby with her older sister, Hisana, when they were both trapped in a house fire during the 1800's in Kyoto, Japan. They arrived together in the 78th District of Rukongai. For the first couple weeks or so, Hisana did her best to take care of her baby sister, however, since they lived in such a poor district, she wasn't able to support them both, and nobody else would take them in as a pair. Hisana made the choice that she would rather try to find a way to live better separately, rather than live miserably together, so the woman abandoned Rukia, who in human years was just over 1 year old at the time. When a family found a baby all alone in the street, they were kind enough to take it in.

Though she was extremely young at the time, Rukia somehow has a vague memory that she had a sister. As she got a little bit older, she understood better what had happened to her. Somewhat bitter, but determined to prove she really could make it on her own, when she was 6 years old she left the family that had taken her in, and fended for herself on the streets of the 78th district.

Life in the 78th District
Even if she was still considered young, Rukia did quite well on her own. She was tough, no one could doubt that, in addition to being pretty smart and resilient, all could skills that helped her survive. Only a few years had passed, when during what particular squabble she came upon a loud, red-haired boy named Renji Abarai. To put it simply, their strong personalities collided quite a bit at first, but that was also how they first began to form a lasting friendship. Rukia joined him, along with a handful of other children close to their age, and they made their own misfit family. Though they still had to steal food, and sometimes fight, in order to survive, they all worked together well, and she was the happiest with them. Decades past, and as she grew older, it became known that she and Renji had growing spiritual power. A couple of times the pair was approached by Shinigami who sensed this, but they had always turned down the thought of going to the academy. However, their district grew rougher and worse, and over the years their large group of friends had all died. Finally, Rukia and Renji decided they would go become shinigami together, in hopes of living better for themselves and for their lost friends, and maybe making a difference in the future.

Shinigami Academy
Life at the Shinigami Academy started out fairly well. They subjects weren't always the most fascinating for Rukia, but she admittedly found the prospect of kidou and swordsmanship interesting. Unfortunately for her, just finding it interesting wasn't enough. She initially struggled in these two fields, and eventually was held back to a second rank class, while Renji succeeded to the top. At first, the two still saw each other a fair amount, and this difference more or less just kept the friendly rivalry that the pair had always had. However, as Renji got further and further ahead, they started to grow apart not just distance wise, but also emotionally. She didn't want to show it, originally priding herself for her independent spirit, though the truth was she really valued they friendship she had made, and was slowly getting depressed without it.

Byakuya's Offer
It was around this time that she was approached by the noble, Byakuya Kuchiki, who asked her to join his family. Though the request was made rather casually, Rukia was completely stunned. Even she was aware of the status of that household, and she had a general idea of what it would mean to actually be considered a Kuchiki. She knew that this was an opportunity she shouldn't pass up, nonetheless, she asked for a moment to think about it. Apparently, even at a Shinigami Academy gossip spreads quickly, and as fate would have it just as her time was ending Renji burst through the door, a bit bewildered himself. For a brief second, the girl was happy on the inside to see her old friend. Still, judging by his expression, he seemed to also know what this offer meant; if she accepted it was likely she might not ever see him again. To be a Kuchiki was to be exclusive. However, in the end the red-haired youth only spoke his "congratulations". That was the final straw, and the girl went with Byakuya. Looking back, Rukia knew deep down she had been waiting for her friend to object, but pride, and perhaps a little anger had prevented her from saying anything. What she hadn't known, though, as that Byakuya was only acting on behalf of her late sister Hisana, who's dying wish to her fiancé was that he look after Rukia.

Being a Kuchiki
Though she had joined the Kuchiki clan reluctantly, in the long run Rukia's realized that she is grateful for all that they did for her. With her new name, she was immediately inducted into the 13th division, without even having to formerly graduate or take a squad entrance exam. Still, life wasn't all that easy. Even she knew that despite have Byakuya's "blessing", there were still many tensions and sharp eyes around her because of the fact that she was now nobility. There were guidelines and rules to follow, and if she didn't uphold the weight that was put on her shoulders, she knew there had to be consequences of some kind. Instinctively, the girl almost wanted to reject being put in such a strict position, however, as strange as it sounded, she found herself realizing that she didn't want to fail them. She wanted to prove that she could be a Kuchiki, and in particular she didn't want to embarrass Byakuya.

Division 13 Member
Though she hadn't even been a top student at the academy, Rukia excelled as a member of the 13th Division. She enjoyed working under Jushiro Ukitake. She hadn't been working as a shinigami for that long when there were rumors that she would be moved up to a seated position, however that never happened. Not that she really minded in particular, though, she liked working even if she wasn't ranked. Unknown to her though, she was always more than qualified, but Byakuya had forbid her from being promoted in an attempt to keep her safe from more dangerous missions. Still, she kept trying to improve, and her zanpakutou skills in particular got a lot better thanks to her squads lieutenant, Kaien Shiba. Kaien had at first just been someone who was nice to Rukia when she first joined the squad, but then he started to train her as well, and became her mentor. As the years passed, though, the two became closer friends, and she admired the man greatly.

Such peace couldn't last forever though. One day, Kaien's wife Miyako, another woman that Rukia looked up to a lot, was killed by a hollow. She was shocked and grieved by this news, but it was obvious that Kaien-dono was hurt the most. Wanting to help in whatever way she could, she set out with Kaien, as well as Ukitake, to hunt the hollow down. It didn't take long for them to find the monster, but when the did Kaien insisted on fighting it alone. She wasn't too concerned at first, believe in his strength, but the tables were turned as the hollow broke Kaien's zanpakutou. Rukia wanted to in and help, but Ukitake-taichou held her back, saying that Kaien's fight was for honor, and not for his life. She was completely torn, though. After all he had helped her with, was there nothing she could do in return?

She was forced to watch with fear as the Hollow possessed Kaien. Finally Ukitake had decided this had gone too far, and he tried to stop in, but as fate would have it her captain's illness hinder him for a moment, and the hollow turned to attack her. Rukia's zanpakutou was out and facing forward, but she was completely frozen. She didn't have the will to attack this creature knowing Kaien-dono was a part of it. Suddenly, though, Kaien regained control himself for a brief moment, and he took that time to thrust himself onto Rukia's blade. The girl wanted to scream, cry, do something! But in the end she just held her beloved lieutenant in her arms, and for some bittersweet reason he thanked her letting him fight, before he died in front of him. The shinigami girl was completely crushed, yet at the some time felt horribly empty on the inside. She returned Kaien's body to his family, but she was too afraid to face them and apologize. Life slowly returned to a normal pace, but no matter how many years pass she can't get rid of the guilt she feel for having a part in his death.

Ichigo Kurosaki
It was less than a year ago that Rukia was given one of her first solo assignments in the human world. She was sent to watch over a place called Karakura Town in Japan. The girl was excited to have the responsibility, though a bit anxious as well. Not too long ago, it had started like any other night. She had been tracking a hollow through the town, and for a moment she had ended up in what appeared to be a teenage boy's room. Much to her surprised, though, the boy was able to see her. Before any questions could be asked, though, the hollow returned, attacking the boy's house and his family. Rukia fought against the creature, but ended up being greatly wounded in the battle. The boy ran up to her, desperate for any way to save his family. Rukia knew there was a way, but she also knew it was forbidden. Still, deep down she didn't want to have more innocent blood like theirs on her hands. Or maybe, she was really just sympathetic to the boys pleas or it was even possible that, well...she was influenced by the fact he looked like Kaien-dono, if even just a little. The boy introduced himself as Ichigo Kurosaki, before Rukia transfered her spiritual powers into him.

Ichigo had been able to save his family, which she was grateful for, but something had still gone wrong. By accident, she had given him all of her powers. In her weak state, she decided she would stay in Karakura Town in order to help make sure Ichigo took care of the hollows she could defeat. However, the other fact was that she knew she couldn't return to Soul Society. What she had done was illegal, and she was unsure what awaited her if she was found out. So, for the time being, she tried to lay low by putting herself in a gigai, and even attended High School with Ichigo. The human world was very confusing to her. There were so many strange objects and mannerisms but it was...nice at time, as well By Ichigo's side, she met many people with strange talents, such as Inoue, Sado, and much to her shock even a quincy named Uryuu.

Retrieval from Karakura Town
As time passed, Rukia realized that she was getting too close to her mortal acquaintances. Soul Society would wonder why she wasn't checking in, and would send someone after her. If they found out about Ichigo...well, she shuddered to think what they would do to him. In order to try to save the one's she had come to care about, she planned to run away from Karakura Town, and hopes that Soul Society would leave them alone.

However, she didn't even make it outside the town, when she was face to face with two people she hadn't spoken to in a very long time. Her nii-sama, Byakuya Kuchiki, and her former long-time friend, Renji Abarai, both here with a declaration that they were going to kill her. Suddeny, the quincy Uryuu appeared and saved her, but as she could have predicted he was no match. And then to make matter worse, Ichigo showed up. The one person she had been trying to save walked straight into the path of danger. A part of Rukia still feared what was going to happen to her, but overwhelmingly she wanted to keep the others safe. She feigned coldness to Ichigo, and agreed to return with Byakuya, hoping to give him a chance. Still, as she left the boy bleeding in the street, deep down, she felt it was the last time she would even see him.

Imprisonment in Soul Society
In Soul Society, she was informed that for her illegal act of transferring soul powers into a human, she was to be executed. At first the harsh judgement shocked her, but she quickly resigned herself to her fate. Ichigo was dead, and she had failed to help him just like she had with Kaien. Rukia doubted someone like her really deserved to be alive in the first place. Even when her trial was moved up 14 days later, she simply remained calm and expected to live out the rest of her days peacefully in the Shrine of Penitence. She lost her composure for a brief moment, when Captain Ichimaru Gin told her something which seemed to suggest Ichigo was here in soul society. In the end, though, Rukia didn't dare hope that he was actually here for her.

Before her 14 days was up, she received another surprise when two people came in the Shrine to see her. One was a boy dressed in a Squad 4 uniformed, name Hanatarou. The other was an older man, who introduced himself as Ganju Shiba. It took a moment, but as soon as she heard that name she remembered him as Kaien's younger brother, and it seemed Ganju spitefully remembered her as well. They continued with their attempt to rescue her, but were cut off by the appearance of Byakuya. Ganju hopelessly fought against him, but it turn was saved by the sudden arrival of Ichigo. Rukia was stunned, almost unsure of how she should feel to see the boy supposedly back from the dead. Their reunion was shortened, though, when a mysterious, speedy woman took Ichigo away, and Rukia was returned to the shrine.

"Execution" and the Hougyoku
Though moved up once more, the hour of Rukia's execution finally arrives, and she is still convincing herself that she is okay with death. Besides, as she was chained there on Sokyoku Hill, it seemed that there was nothing she could do about it now. Suddenly, though, with as fateful timing as ever, Ichigo appeared in front of her, and stopped the Sokyoku's attack entirely. Somehow, she could stop but feel elated to see him, though she was furious as well. He had been lucky before, but it was madness to think he could stop the blade a second time, and then plan to defeat her brother! However, she could only watch as the impossible happened, and he did just that. Cutting her free, Ichigo quite literally threw her to Renji (something that she actually needs to smack him for later).

Despite how angry she pretended to be she could deny that she was...relieved to be alive. She was happy that she had the chance to see her friends again, as selfish as it may sound. She was completely out of the clear though. Just as she finally thought that the whole ordeal might be ended, Aizen Sosuke showed up, with Ichimaru and Kaname Tosen at his side. Despite the efforts of the Gotei 13, and Ichigo, Aizen pulled the power known as the Hougyoku from her body. She was shocked and confused as to how something like that could have been inside of her her whole life, though it was later explained that it was the ex-captain Kisuke Urahara who attempted to hide it there.

Though much of Soul Society's is in shambles thanks to Aizen's plan, there are managing to slowly rebuild, in more way than one. Rukia's powers still have not fully returned to her, but she has her life back which is more than she could have asked for. She know Ichigo will have to return to Karakura Town soon, and though a part of her will be sad to see him and the others go, she knows that for now her place is with her brother, her newly reformed friendship with Renji, and with her squad.

Visual Age: Rukia still appears to be about 15 or 16 years old

Division: 13th

Divisions: No

Rank: She's still considered strong, but thanks to Byakuya's secret interference she isn't ranked

Appearance
Visual Appearance: Posted Image

Physical Appearance: Sometimes to her dismay, if you had to described Rukia in one word, it would probably be short. She stands at a meager 4'8", with an overall petite frame to match. She doesn't even seem to have much muscle on her, but many (*cough* Ichigo *cough*) should be able to vouch that she can still pack quite a punch. She has short, glossy black hair with choppy edges that end just before her shoulder, and she often keeps one long bang that hangs in front of her face. Her eyes are very dark as well, sometimes appearing to be black almost, but in fact they are just a deep blue-violet in color. In contrast to these dark features, she has very pale skin, but you can't really expect her to tan when she's not technically alive anymore.

Clothing and Armor: In Soul Society, she wears the standard black shinigami uniform, with a white cloth tied around her waist that holds her Zanpakutou at her side. In Karakura town, she managed to snag a high school uniform for her gigai, and if she needs other civilian clothes she'll often wear some kind of simple knee-length dress.

Personality:
There are, essentially, two different sides to Rukia's personality (a reflection of how she has lived in two very different types of social settings). First, there is her so-called tough side. This is where she shows her strong-will and bravery from her time spent in Rukongai. She is never one afraid to fight or stand up for what she believes in, though this can often end with her being just plain stubborn. She has a bit of a sarcastic and loud streak in her as well, though, this is only really seen around people's she's close with, like Renji or Ichigo. Overall, though, she really is a caring person, even if she shows it oddly. For example, she can appear to be quite "abusive" at times, however usually its masking how worried, or even scared, she was about something or someone.

The girl as a serious side to personality in addition, this part thanks to her time spent with the Kuchiki clan. Even if she is only an adopted member, the fact that she nobility requires her to be able to be graceful and mature, two things that Rukia really is underneath it all. She is very thoughtful and intuitive, even if this is sometimes offset by the cutesy drawings she does when trying to explain things. She maintains a certain amount of pride too, which in the end means she's not very good at apologies, but that's not to say she doesn't know when she's in the wrong. In fact, guilt is one emotion that heavily weighs on her conscience. She still blames herself constantly for what happened to Kaien-dono. Still, for her friends and those she cares about, she would go to the ends of the earth for them.

Zanpakutou

Zanpakutou Name: Sode no Shirayuki (Sleeve's White Snow)

Spirit Appearance: Sode no Shirayuki appears to Rukia as a mature, young woman, dressed in old, traditional dance robes of Japan, and her overall style is similar to that of a Geisha. Her entire outfit is white, though with some pale blue accents. To be honest, the spirit sometimes reminds the girl of Hisana.

Inner World: The main area of her spirit world is a large, feudal-era dance stage, with a surrounding complex, and in the background there are large, snow-covered mountains everywhere.

Sealed Form: When sealed, Shirayuki looks like a fairly normal katana.

Shikai

Shikai Release Phrase: Mai (Dance) - Sode no Shirayuki

Posted Image

Shikai Appearance: Immediately, every part of the zanpakutou turn pure white in color. The hilt of the blade becomes circular, with a snowy pattern, and a long white ribbon forms from the pommel.

Shikai Abilities: Sode no Shirayuki has three different abilities, referred to as "dances".

First Dance, White Moon (some no mai, tsukishiro) - Rukia can create a circle of influence around her intended target and freeze everything within the circle from the ground upwards until it reaches the sky. While this trap is very strong, it should be noted that it is not impossible to break free of it if the target survives the initial attack and has a very large amount of reiatsu.

Next Dance, White Ripple (tsugi no mai, hakuren) - This technique fires a massive wave of ice from Sode no Shirayuki's blade. This will either (hopefully) pierce the target, or it can also just be used to trap somebody within the ice, though on a smaller level than the first dance.

Third Dance, White Sword (san no mai, shirafune): Allows Rukia to reforge her zanpakutō with ice particles if it is broken, piercing through objects in its path. After piercing its target, it continues to freeze any surrounding objects, including the battlefield.

Bankai - Not yet achieved

Learned Kidō:
1. Restain
39. Arc Shield
31. Shot of Red Fire
32. Blue Fire, Crash Down
73. Twin Lotus, Blue Fire Crash Down
Healing Kido (there's not an official number for this, but it is listed as a general area that Rukia is suppose to be good at)
