strange. I believe this topic was discussed in a thread here already about Coldplay's newest album.

Honestly, if you aren't an idiot who can listen to the lyrics of songs, its pretty simple to gather the meaning of this song. firstly, the song was taken from Frida Kahlo's painting of the same name and secondly, i don't know if you are talking about the meaning of this particular song or if you are meaning the background and inspirations for the entire album but Chris Martin is pretty straight forward when it comes to his lyrics either way.

Now the question for you is, did you enjoy the album? Truthfully, I enjoyed it. But i feel like they are just trying to live past being England's second biggest band behind Radiohead...by trying to sound more like Radiohead. Sure, Martin's voice is a bit different and his use of falsetto contrasts from Thom Yorke, but Viva la Vida, Or Death and All of His Friends sounds like radiohead when close your eyes during parts where martin isn't singing. I think its just the more electronic sound this time. I mean the piano is still used throughout the piece, but i hate that they seem to slowly depart from playing the piano. Nobody wants to just flat out play the piano in albums anymore. everyone wants a bigger sound, an orchestrated sound. strings, brass, and synths and shit. I think just playing the piano in a song seems a little more honest. and a little more tasteful. simple music can be just as, if not more enjoyable depending on who's playing.

Weak song. Violet Hill was a much, much, much stronger single. The Album was excellent together but Viva La Vida was definitely one of the weakest songs. It starts well, and I enjoy the strings but after a few listens I just get bored of it. It's not the sort of song you can stick on repeat, and it's not really Coldplay.

None of it is really Coldplay in my opinion. But bands evolve and change as they grow older. So I accept it as their new sound. I just hope they bring some more piano back to it and drop so much electronic sounds.

I liked it, but the user who said Violet Hill had a stronger feeling, I agree. I can stick that song on repeat, but Coldplay has been a favorite of mine since the beginning.
