I wasn't alive. Wouldn't be for another two years. But I still understand the impact Len Bias' death made on the NBA, basketball, and sports everywhere. ![]() http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/sto...ht&lid=tab1pos1 Read this thing today. top to bottom. picture comments and all. I absorbed every bit of it as I could. College Basketball is a passion of mine. I am not a very good basketball player....but those boys who usually can't play write about those who can. Sports Journalism is a career I would fit in great with, so this story is something I have always delved myself into deeply. I didn't care much for the whole "mother moves on and uses faith to preach to kids" part of the story, but the fact that Len Bias was (and i've watched more 70's and 80's college basketball games than some people have that actually lived in the 70's and 80's) the best and was going to become the NBA's best until that night is what has always stung. We always lose those who are truly great. He was the only person I ever saw in the ACC to truly go toe to toe with Michael Jordan. And I believe had he lived, he would have been greater. had he lived. 22 years is a long time. |
