General Information Name: Alphonse Elric Gender: Male Age: 19 Birth Date: July 20 1900 Birthplace: Resembool Current Residence: Other side of the Gate Occupation: Alchemist History: Alphonse is born in a small town named Resembool in the Amestris countryside. He lived with his older brother, Edward Elric, and both of his parents, Trisha Elric and Hohenheim, until Hohenheim embarked on a journey when Alphonse was still a baby. Shortly after Hohenheim's departure, Trisha falls ill and dies, leaving the two young boys as orphans. Their neighbor, Pinako Rockbell, then begins looking after them. During that time, they diligently study alchemy in the hopes that they will be able to bring their mother back to life. After meeting with a skilled alchemist named Izumi Curtis, Al and his brother become her apprentices. When they return home from their training, they proceed to try Human transmutation in their father's study. The brothers not only fail to bring their mother back to life, but it also costs Al his body and Edward his left leg. Edward then performs a second transmutation, sacrificing his own right arm to bind Alphonse's soul to a nearby suit of armor. Al follows Edward as he becomes a State Alchemist in order to find a way to recover their bodies through use of the legendary Philosopher's Stone. While traveling to Central City to become State Alchemist, Al and Ed learn of a man named Majihal living in a nearby town. They remember that this Alchemist had written to their father about ways to create human life. Eager to learn more, Ed and Al travel to the town to meet Majihal. When they get there, however, they learn that the town is being haunted by a ghostly woman who is taking the souls of young girls. Majihal banishes the ghost, but is he hiding something more sinister? Mustang orders Ed and Al to take an earlier train to Central City. Once on board, they learn that General Haruko and his family are traveling on the same train. Although the train is heavily guarded, terrorists quickly hijack the train and take everyone on board hostage. Using their skills, Ed and Al stop the terrorists. Ed and Al finally arrive in Central City. Needing a place to stay, Mustang places the boys under the supervision of 'Sewing-Life Alchemist' Shou Tucker. Awed by Tucker's mansion and vast library of Alchemy books, the brothers spend some happy days of study and good fun. All their work leads up to one event -- the Alchemy Exam. Al and Ed are informed by Tucker that there is a physical that is preformed during the Exam and Al and Ed didn’t want to risk the state finding out that they had tried to do a human transmutation so Ed told Al to not take the exam so they wouldn’t be found out. Al did as he was told and waited for Ed to finish his exam. After Ed becomes a state alchemist him and Al begin their quest to restore their bodies. However, something about Tucker's chimera experiments begins to trouble Ed. As he investigates, Ed begins to see a sinister side to alchemy. Edward then resigns his position as a State Alchemist. Meanwhile, Winry arrives in the city for a visit and to congratulate Ed on his commission After several months of searching and not wanting to face Mustang with the news that they still have no new information about the Philosopher's Stone and with The annual Alchemy Assessment is fast approaching, and Ed still has not have much success with his search for the Philosopher's Stone. Tired of Mustang's constant rebuke, and with nothing substantial to show for his Assessment, Ed comes up with a solution to settle both problems: Challenge the Colonel to a duel. Al of course didn’t think that was the best idea but Ed is never one to give up a challenge so Al had to sit back and watch, unable to really do anything. After going back to Resembool for a few days Ed and Al returns to Central, and can't wait to begin his search for Marcoh's notes in the Central Library's First Branch. Unfortunately, they learn that the First Branch was completely destroyed the night before. To add to their troubles, witnesses had seen Scar in the vicinity before the fire. There research leads them to the Fifth Laboratory and they learn that it was used as a biological research facility for the military. There, Ed is nearly fooled into doing an unspeakable act. Ed manages to escape, but then discovers that Envy has taken Al hostage. Envy only took Al to try and lure Ed towards them. Al wasn’t really able to do much so he had to just sit and wait for Ed to come and save him. Ed finally comes and beats Envy. They then find themselves in the hospital. Ed announces that he and Al have decided to stop searching for the Philosopher's Stone, they leave Central to visit their old teacher. Izumi sends the brothers to the savage Island of Yock. Al and Ed remember when, as children, when they were dumped on the very same island. With no food or shelter, they are left with only the cryptic words of Izumi: "One is All, All is One." As Al and Ed get ready to leave Yock Island, a strange boy wanders out of the forest. Suffering from amnesia, he can't remember how he got there. Amazingly, he is a gifted alchemist; not only can he perform alchemy, but he also doesn't need a transmutation circle. He also has other amazing abilities, compelling Izumi to take the child in. After some prodding from Al and Ed, Izumi decides it's time the brothers met Dante: her old Master who taught her everything she knows about Alchemy. Dante also knew the brother's father, Hohenheim Elric. On the Way Greed Kidnapped Al and the battle to rescue Al is in full force, as Major Armstrong takes to the sewers to fight off Greed's men while Ed remains on the surface in a showdown with Greed and the Military. Back on their hunt for the Philosopher's Stone, Al and Ed come upon a strangely prosperous city in the middle of the desert. They find that the leader is a priest who performs miracles and resurrections, much to the delight of the citizens. They investigate, and Ed and Al discover the truth behind Father Cornello's miracles. However, if they reveal this truth, they will destroy the hopes and dreams of Rose and the other citizens of the city. First, though, they survive Father Cornello's Alchemy. Ed, Al, and Winry continue on their travel to Ishbal in hopes of finding out how they made the fabled philosophers stone. While Ed was battling Scar Al somehow found himself in the middle of a scheme that the homunculi were putting together. They set it up so the army came in number and they set up a large transmutation circle around the town, with Al right in the middle. Kimblee used alchemy to transform Al’s armor into an explosive material and then Scar transferred his incomplete Phlosopher’s Stone into Al to save his life. Since Scar did that Al became the Philospher’s Stone as a result. Because he houses the Stone in his body, he became the primary target of Dante's attempt to cheat death, but not before he becomes a pawn in Shou Tucker's plot to resurrect Nina. He was captured by the Homunculi for Dante. Gluttony was going to devour Al so Gluttony could complete the stone in his our body. But when he saw his brother killed by Envy, Al uses the stone's power to restore Edward's body and re-bind his soul to it. This destroys his own body as he used up the whole of the Philosopher's Stone in the transmutations. Ed, who could not accept his little brother sacrificing himself for him, resurrected Al by using himself as the equivalent exchange in a transmutation and fully expecting to die. Al came back in his original 10-year-old body with no memory of his life since the night they tried to revive their mother. He became Izumi's student again to study alchemy so that he could be reunited with Ed again. During that time, Al came to resemble his brother, donning attire similar to Ed's, equipped with gloves that have transmutation circles on both of them so he can merely clap his hands together to perform alchemy. After a long battle, Ed entered the other side of the Gate and finds himself in a war-torn land. There he finds his father, who tells him the real truth about alchemy. After returning to Amestris to save Al, Ed ends up back on the other side of the gate. After hunting for a dragon for Bradley, Ed almost gets Ate by Envy, which the Thule Society captures. Back in the Thule Society's lair, the armors return due to the 'magic circle' being incomplete. They're all dead, and Ed turns up to interrupt the party. He's shot at, so dives into the heap o armors, suddenly hearing one of them speak in Al's voice. It is an armor that is the exact model he forced his brother's spirit into years ago, speaking to him. They fight their way out and talk by a river. Because Al has transferred part of his spirit into the armors, he can communicate with Ed now, but eventually he fades away, leaving Ed alone While Ed meets Bradley again, Al is waiting back for him at home. Ed goes back home and tries to persuade Alphonse to stop helping the Thule Society because his research will only help with the war. Alphonse will have none of it and knocks Ed aside, then coughs blood out claiming that he just wants to leave a mark in this world, HIS world. Alphonse wants Ed to be happy, to go back to where he came from, so in the midst of the Thule sending off crafts and crafts of their armored warriors into the opened portal leading to 'Shamabala', he sends Ed on his way. On the other side of the gate, A smaller craft comes through and crashes at a site near them, and when the smoke clears they find Ed on the ground wincing. It suddenly dawns upon Al what terrible things are pouring out of the portal and he runs off in shock. Ed tries to follow but his mechanical leg is mangled beyond repair. Winry Repairs Ed, and gives him new limbs. Al and Ed start fighting together against a borderline Dietlinde, who has deemed the inhabitants of 'Shamabala' not fit to live since they aren't the same as she is. Ed and her are matched evenly in a one-on-one fight but she calls on more of her armored fighters to corner him. Fortunately Al had taken control of them and they beat Dietlinde. Ed knows the war will continue unless he goes back to the other world and destroys the Alchemy circle allowing the Thule access to their world. Ed returns to find Noah holding a dead Alphonse. Then from a familiar armor comes Al's voice. Ed thinks it's just part of Al's soul talking to him again, but out pops his little brother from inside! He snuck back on, unwilling to be separated again. Says Mustang would've by now destroyed their world's portal, and he wants to continue his travels with Ed like they did 2 years ago..... Ed and Al then set out on their new adventure, Finding the Uranium bomb, and destroying it before it destroys both worlds. Their 2 year investigation has led them to Los Alamos, NM, the home of Los Alamos Laboratory. Characteristics Visual Appearance: ![]() Physical Appearance: Al looks a lot like his brother, but slightly taller. His hair is a dark golden almost brown color. His eyes are a light hazel color. He has a thin frame with some small muscles. Clothing and Armor: Al wears a simple outfit. A light blue collared shirt and a darker blue jacket over that. His pants are kaki with brown shoes. He has white gloves with transmutation circles on both of them. Personality: Alphonse is a sweet boy who loves strays and is pure, kind, a bit naive, and gentle to those around him. These traits are considered as childish tendencies- the reason is said to be because he has a stunted emotional maturity from not growing physically at all. Alphonse is completely against Edward dying or being separated from him, so Al usually stops his brother from going too far for him. Al is known to be one of his "tough-as-steel" older brother's few weaknesses; enemies often try to take advantage over it. Alphonse sometimes feels that he is a burden to Edward, but he has saved his brother's life more than once. Items: Al’s only item is his gloves with transmutation circles on them. Abilities: He knows all elements of alchemy, but his best and most used it earth. He doesn’t need to draw a circle do perform alchemy since he has seen the gate. He also can do soul moving, which means he can move his soul into certain parts of metal and then control it. He is also very skilled in hand to hand combat. |
