Abusing power since 2006

At least thats what I thought all the categories of fags were. An angry Lesbian a few days ago told me instead of Queer its "Questioning".

WTF? Thats even more insulting, and queer is such an appropriate word :p Also how are you questioning, you'd have to be in a total state of not wanting sex because you wouldn't know what to fuck  It boggles the mind how thats even possible. Also why are Trannies even listed? If your a trannie, you are a different sex, that doesn't mean you only fuck other trannies

What are your thoughts on how fucked up the queer community is?

Couple of comments to add to this....

Firstly, let's keep the childish bickering out of this and keep this mature, people. This can be a perfectly rational discussion until you start throwing opinions in other peoples' faces. It's one thing to state an opinion, quite another to be overly sarcastic about it. You can make a point without getting unpleasant. Nor should OTHER words be brought into play here. Doesn't matter, it's still a slur, and it doesn't belong on these forums any more than those at the start of this thread[and in the title] do.

Secondly, it's not proven one way or the other if you're born different or raised that way.... and throwing that in there is akin to forcing your beliefs down someone's throat. Unless you've got HUGE amounts of proof to back that up, no go. [And no, there isn't a lot of proof, one way or the other, so it's all subjective.] If you're going to bring that up, you must state that it's your opinion only.

I am educated as well, and though that can come into play, it's not something that needs be brought up when trying to state something that was said to you by another. It makes it sound like you're saying that because he's educated the rest of us must not be, even though we've conducted ourselves in a much more mature and reasonable manner. *shrug* Just a thought there.

Some in our community just don't like that there are more than a few words for us out there. Honestly, if you knew [and he knew] what some of those words meant, there'd be no need to become offended. [By some of them, at least.]

Lesbian
Gay
Bisexual -- These first three are commonplace and have been used for ages. Sorry, but it's not likely to change, and many actually encourage them.

Transgender -- This is NOT, contrary to popular belief, a lifestyle choice. It is a recognized disability, and has been in the DSM for quite some time. It is, in essence, someone who's brain and mind were hardwired to be the opposite gender of their body. And before any of you try to argue this, I was originally going to be a regular psychologist before changing my major. Believe me, I know all about this stuff.

Transsexual -- Not necessarily someone with a so called 'alternative' lifestyle. [I so hate words like that. Just because it's DIFFERENT from what most people see as normal doesn't mean it's alternative. It's just different, that's all.] These are men [and women] who dress up in the opposite gender's clothing. There's a stereotype of them on screen and elsewhere in the media, but it's quite wrong. Again, this is something studied in psychology [and not the beginning courses, mind] and this is the correct definition of it. Many are not gay or bisexual, or whatever, but are actually straight.

Queer -- I will admit this one irritates me more than a bit.... Nuff said.

Asexuality -- This is someone who doesn't want and isn't interested in EITHER. I've known a few of these people. It isn't really a choice so much as something different in the chemical make up of the body.

With all the above that I've given longer descriptions on, I can and will quote sources and find them if needed. Suffice it to say, they aren't really just terms for those who prefer someone of the same sex. They are terms for many different things, but all, due to our society, have been grouped into one category, whether they like it or not. Rather than fight with that, I'll say, yes, those are the correct terms. Shortening them is akin to a slur, as I stated before, and shouldn't be done.

So there you have it. I'm sticking around this thread as I feel that it needs a few of us with a more level headed approach. Revan and Miyamoto for example, have been having a reasonable and rational discussion rather than descending into bashing of others or childish bickering. Please people, if you're going to discuss things, take a moment to write out what you're thinking, make sure it's not going to inflame the already touchy subject... re-read what you've got, and then post it.
Extremely well said Immortal Beloved . I am in full agreement I have many friends who are Gay, Bi, lesbian and transgender. But i do not see them as such I only see my friends. They have different taste than me thats it they are still the same people I befriended years ago. I have to admit though I enjoy their company we joke a lot with each other and have fun. We tend to rag on each other. They always call me what revan has dubbed a Breeder. But i never insult them and i am always the first to their defense when it comes down to the grind and they me.

Shh...don't wake the baby. CRAP IT'S AWAKE, RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!

Sighs thanks so much for more than likely finding me to be the idiot I'm assuming?

To begin with, I respect your friend Cody for believing they do not need to chop the LGBTTTIQQ into all these categories, I apologize if that's what I was saying.

As for IB's explanations there are a few things to clear up.

Queer is not an insult, it's actually used to describe one who does not subscribe to gender norms. Basically describing sexual orientation as more fluid.

As for the transgender and transsexual you actually have it mixed up.

Transgendered people are people who's physical appearance and behaviour does not conform to traditional gender standards.

Transsexual people are those whose physical sex does not match their internal gender.

It's an often confused relation, people mix up transgendered and transsexual.

Then there are other categories such as Two-Spirited: An Aboriginal term. There is male, female and male-female. Now don't confuse this with transgendered or transsexual. In this they say that a body houses both male and female spirits in their bodies. However these people may adopt a male or female gender role and dress as such. They are traditionally respected for their ability to see the world from two perspectives.

Just thought to clear it up :p

Actually, after pulling out my DSM and other reference books that are used by many professionals to diagnose things, I will state that I did mix the two up, but I partly blame my own professors and other professionals who have taught me in the past... They've described them differently than was shown in many books that I have on hand. My bad. ^_^;

Queer, I am well aware is not meant to be an insult, but it has become one, moreso than some of the others, due to people misusing it. That's why I find it offensive. It has started to mean something that it was not meant to. Though the original meaning does not offend me... *shrug* Guess it's just a matter of reminding oneself what it originally meant.

As for the other, I wasn't sure what they meant right off, and as I had some legal issues to attend to, I was unable to research. Thanks for giving a definition on them. =]

Hmmm...While reading this, the thread started out really unpleasant but thanks to Revan46 it's better.

If you were to start a topic like this, with such controversy attached to it, you should handle it with maturity.

Love is simply love. No matter who that person is.

That's my opinion.
