Kasumi arrived back in the Soul Society, and as it was in the world of the living, calm, quiet darkness still reigned. She was exhausted, but her mind was too heavily laden with worry and thought, to even consider finding sleep, so she found herself, as she often did, wandering aimlessly down the dark and lonely streets of the Rukongai; her hand close to the hilt of her blade, knowing them to be unsafe, even in the day. Moment by moment passed undisturbed, and gradually she relaxed. All sense of danger was past her now, and all her fears she felt she might have left behind with that arrancar. Never in her life...life after death that is, could she ever remember being more frightened. If not for her life it was just the shock of one so terrifying, and she being it's object of desire. The sky, and the forlorn moon caught her eye as she stared up at it mournfully; beautiful, but sad and lonely, with no one but to appreciate the simplicity of it. She knew the pain, all to well. Tiring, she found a place in a patch of tall, soft grass and taking her sword from it's place on her back, threw it down, gently and lay down. It was cool, and the dew has just began to condense on the tiny blades, and she felt the moisture soak through her shihakusho, but paid it no mind; it was annoying, if not a bit refreshing. Closing her eyes, she sighed and crossed her arms across her chest, searching her mind for at least a single decent thought to cling to. |

The pleasant breeze blew across his body, causing his hair to flow gently as he lay with his headphones on, humming away to some new track he had bought when in the living world. His eyes where closed as he sat and thought to himself, wondering what he should do now that he knew the man he had once looked up to was still alive. He sigh gently as he opened his eyes slowly to peer upon the sky once more. He smiled softly at its beauty as he sat and thought to himself If I am to go and seek him out... I can never return here... not that I'll be missing out on a whole lot here... that is a depressing thought... he smiled "Thats not like me..." he said softly before feeling a presence near him... Kasumi-san....? He thought to himself. He turned to her and smiled as she sat a distance away, she didn't even notice him... that was typical "Kasumi-san....?" |

Kasumi's heart leaped in her chest for a moment, as she heart some soft voice on the air, calling to her. Her wide eyes darted across the landscape until finally they came to rest on the only lone figure, besides herself, about. She felt utterly inept for not being able to notice there was someone there at all, but her thoughts had not only clouded her mind, but obviously her senses as well. Who was it...she tried to read the aura before she responded but she was just too distracted to control herself properly; instead she leaned toward the figure, silhouetted against the moonlight and responded softly with a shy, "...yes?" |

He sighed "You still don't recognize me..." he said as he walked towards her, his face coming into view, showing none other than Ken'ichi... "yari yari... your mind must be far away from here" He said as he looked down towards her "Do you wish company, or is this a place for you yourself...?" he asked quietly, the window softly flowing through his hair. He didn't have his Zanpaku-to, and was wearing black hakama with a white and blue kimono over it and a red sash round it. "I apologize if I startled you Kasumi-san..." He smiled brightly, ignoring all the niggling thoughts driving through his mind, maybe having someone to talk to would help remove his mind from such things... "I am Ken'ichi..." |

She looked up as the figure grew closer and contemplating reaching for her Zanpakuto, but what did it matter? If their intent be harm they could have struck while she was unaware, and if they were waiting for later, they were too close to worry about defending herself now. The closer they came she more clearly she could see, and much to her relief, she sighed when she instantly remembered the face. "K-Ken'ichi..." She mumbled softly. "Yes, I remember you!" Her voice picked up, and her face brightened at the sight of someone familiar. They had only spoken briefly on an occasion or two, but what did it matter? The company would undoubtedly calm her mind. "Please..." She said, laying her hand in the grass beside her, as if in offering. "Do join me, I would not mind at all." |

He smiled brightly as he lay down next to her, gazing immediately to the sky, taking in its beauty once more... for some reason beauty was something was appreciated a lot more when there where others to share it with, "Yari Yari... the stars are incredible tonight..." he said, his eyes half closed as he spoke "I rarely get to just sit and enjoy the stars anymore, so much is happening at the moment..." He rest his arms behind his head and yawned wildly "Is there anything wrong Kasumi-san? you seem miles away just now..." he smiled, the moonlight catching the blade of grass between his lips. "if you don't wish to talk... I am happy to just lye here and enjoy the stars with you..." |

Kasumi laughed gently, and averted her eyes toward the sky. It was captivating, she had to admit, and as she had many times before, it was the beauty of the night that could whisk her mind away from its conscious suffering, and put it to rest amongst the thousand glittering fragments of stars in the blackened sky. "They are beautiful..." she complimented, laying back down in the grass beside him. "I can't really remember the last time I just laid here to appreciate them..." She drew her knees up close and leaned up to hug them to her chest, resting her chin on her knees her emerald eyes traced imaginary lines between each of the stars in turn. "There's such beauty around us..." She said dreamily. "...and so rarely we stop to appreciate it." She would have talked to him gladly if only she even knew what was bothering her. |

He smiled faintly as he glared upwards to wards the beautiful stars and moon, resting his head on his hands, his casting a slight shadow over his eyes. Yawning once more he opened his mouth to speak, but the words escaped this time, he didn't know what it was he was wanting to say, all he could feel was a troubling angst coming from Kasumi, and it brought a sadness to his heart that he could not instantly find a way to take it away from her. But sadness, just a little bit, helped build character didn't it...? You could not truly appreciate true happiness... that had to be just round the corner for one such as Kasumi hadn't it...? he smiled gently as he thought to himself. It'd be a while till he would finally find his own happiness again, that was what was troubling him, he hated seeing people sad, and he had to sort it... no.. he would sort it out for the world. "I usually make the effort to view the skies at least once a day" he chuckled "Hell I usually spend most of my time looking to the stars and clouds, I love doing so, the peace is good for me... I could just sit here and enjoy the beauty of nature with the spirits all around me, recently I have been unable to truly enjoy though..." He said with a slightly sadness in his voice |

She averted her eyes toward him, without moving much else so perhaps he would not notice she had looked; not that he would have really minded much, she thought, if he had seen. The sadness and discontent in his voice was evident, and she didn't want to pry, and thought altogether of not mentioning it again, but anything to digress from the discomforting and unidentifiable thoughts that plagued her so. "Heh..." She said, attempting a soft chuckle. "What do you mean, there is always time for the sky, ...and no matter what, you can't tell me you can look up there and still remain unhappy." Though she knew from personal experience that this was untrue. |

"I guess you could be right Kasumi-san... But the sky is always cloudy when I look to it these days, as if it is displaying an image of my clouded mind...!" he sighed softly and smiled "But things could be worse right? we still have the stars and the moon... and for now we are all alive" He spoke gently as he moved the blade of grass from one side of his mouth to the other. "If we do not live now, what will we do when it is to late...?" He yawned softly as he pointed to a particularly beautiful star "Ahh that one is lovely..." He smiled, it was a good break right now to what he was planning on doing... but she had once been under Tousen hadn't she....? she must of felt it to...! |

Sighing, she felt as if she identified with him, if only for a moment, they shared a common feeling. Her lips curved into a slight smile of sorts as she shifted positions, laying back into the grass, and turning on her side to face him. She could feel something was weighing heavily on both of their minds. "I know the feeling..." She said softly. "...but...the sky is clear tonight..." |

A smile passed across his lips as she looked towards him, resting back, moving the blade of grass with his lips once more before looking towards her "It is a very beautiful peaceful sky for once, the best I have viewed in a long time, I just hope it won't be the last we see here, I would like to enjoy a sun set with you once" he said happily, in his usual peaceful innocent manner. |

She smiled a bit more, her cheeks blushing pink bashfully. Running her hand softly over the ground she pulled at a few stems of grass idly, and pondered absentmindedly. "I can't even remember the last I saw the sun..." She mused dreamily, "...let alone a sunset..." |

In the short silence between them each speaking, Kasumi felt a small throb against her chest; not so much physical as it was more she'd imagined it. Laying her hand lightly over her skin where she'd felt it, just as it surged again, and she felt an icy chill accompanying it. Reaching into her shihakusho, she wrapped her fingers around the cold metal of Ukitake's pendant. Pulling it out she looked down at it in her palm, the blue gem glowed weakly, and she squeezed it softly and climbed quietly to her feet. "I'm sorry..." She said softly. "...I need to go, now." Turning toward him she bowed modestly. "...this time with you, I shall never forget..." There was something terrible about to happen, she could feel it in a pit in her stomach, as she hurried off toward the 13th Division. |
