At the end of the hall, there appeared to be a large set of blast doors.

Suddenly, though, he felt something happen to him... His free hand clenched of its own accord, and suddenly, his fingernails turned to claws and thrust out of their sockets a good 3 inches. His skin became hard of its own accord; so hard in fact, that it formed into plate-like structures covering his entire body.

He was holding the hazmat suit in one hand, but his other was still pressed against the crystal, which was a good ten feet away... Another surge coursed through his body, and suddenly there were spikes shooting out from in between the hardened plates, and his skin flushed a bright blood-red.
