[New York City] There's No Business Like...

Another day as a waiter, times were boring and rough, but you got tips every once in a while and you got by alright as an aspiring artiste one could say.
Not bad at least, especially today. Supposedly a film executive was coming to dine at the establishment, and the manager was a bit hyped up. Probably an important executive.
This could be your chance.
Probably not though.

Guy was always on the look out for a chance to be discovered, hoping his looks, charms, talent, or a combination of all three would be enough to turn his life from the ordinary into extraordinary. Perhaps his driving ambition in life was to finally make it out of the day-to-day grind and really start living.

With that in mind, Guy knew he was ready. He may have just been a waiter, but he was good at his job, always kept a smile on his face and treated the regular customers he had like family. It wasn't just about the tips really, he got a thrill from the attention.

His shift was just about to start, so he was ready to go in his work uniform, dress shirt and pants neatly tucked in, he hoped his boss would throw him in the VIP section if the rumors were true about their visitor tonight.

His boss was waiting there, nodding slowly to him and ordering him to get dressed.
"You'll be taking VIP tonight, be cordial, be professional. We have important guests. Get it?"

"Oh, I know the drill boss... Professional Suckup for the evening," he said with a casual smirk, he'd be working at the top of his game tonight. VIP customers were always the most delicate to wait on. God forbid someone's steak came out too well done or the lettuce on their salad wasn't crisp enough.

Guy grabbed an apron out of the back room and tucked a pen and spare order pad inside. It was rare that he needed it, preferring to memorize the specifics of his customers when they ordered. Especially in the VIP section, they seemed to enjoy the added personal attention to detail.

His boss nodded to him, leaving the area and making his way back to the main kitchen, presumably to make sure everything was up to par.
Another waiter who worked there, rather disagreeable one in fact, Jonathon, sidled up to Guy.
"Ya hear about the big shot comin' in tonight?"

"Oh how's it going Jon? Yeah I heard, but who knows, you know what those rumors are like, if they show up, it's rarely someone as big as the rumors suggest."

Guy looked around the restaurant to see if anyone else needed his attention or help. While waiting he took a sip from a glass of ice water at the waiter's holding area where he and Jonathan were standing, able to look out over most of the restaurant, including his section.

"What's new with you though Jon, I haven't seen you in awhile?"

It seemed that a young couple were entering the VIP section and needed assistance, though it was unknown if they included the so-called film executive.
Jon shrugged.
"Ain't know...Same old bullshit. You still chasin' yer crazy dreams?"

"My dreams aren't crazy man... someday you'll see, I'll make it big, bigger than you could possibly imagine... Oh, well, looks like I've got a table to attend to, catch ya later."

Guy walked over to the couple swiftly but calmly with a smile on his face, as he did so, he picked up a couple of menus.

"Good evening, welcome to Alessandro's, I'll be your server this evening, allow me to show you to a table."

Guy escorted them towards one of the quaint and cozy little tables in the front of the VIP section already illuminated with a candle and single rose in a vase. Once they were seated he turned back towards the couple and offered the menus to the woman and then the gentleman.

"Our chef has a wonderful selection prepared this evening. If this is your first visit to Alessandro's I would certainly recommend the Porterhouse, it is lightly seasoned and pairs very well with a glass of Viader Cabernet blend. Is there anything I can help you with, perhaps a glass of wine?"

Suddenly, there's the sound of screaming from the front Alessandro's, tires screeching, shouting, and loud hollow pops that seemed to be coming from all around.

[loud hollow pops? does it sound like gunfire? or easily mistaken for a gun? or more like balloons popping? also... the front of the store where I am at with the customers, is there a wall, or a window that I might be able to look out to see what is going on?]

[Your character has to interpret it as he hears it. It could be gunfire. And you're not in the front, you're in the VIP area.]

[okay... well based on the sound description, if the tires are screeching in the front of the restaurant, and there was a loud popping sound in that vicinity also, I assumed the VIP section was upfront... hrmmm... so I'll take it then the VIP section is in the back of the restaurant.]

Thinking quickly, and wanting to find out what was going on, Guy looked to the customers he had just seated to gauge their reactions to the noises. If they looked worried or frightened he would excuse himself to investigate the disturbance, as politely as possible... with a quick line about wanting to ensure their stay was enjoyable and as free from interruption as possible. However, if they seemed like they could care less about what was happening, he would repeat the previous question and see what it was they needed so he could excuse himself to the kitchen to find out what was going on from some of the other staff.

[indeed]

They seemed quite careless and bored with him, the man nodding as if he hadn't even heard the sound, acting almost like they didn't even care about what they ate.
"Yes, yes, get us both the Porterhouse with a glass of Viader Cabernet blend."

Guy walked quickly back to the kitchen and placed his orders, they'd take some time to cook so while he was in the back he looked around for any of his co-workers who might have seen what happened. He hoped someone had been up front and knew what was going on. That popping noise perplexed him, it seemed very out of the ordinary, plus the scream... Screeching tires were an everyday event in New York, but screaming still could run through you like an icy wind.

No one was in the kitchen...at all...Plates were smashed all about on the floor, as if dropped.
