It was dusk on the African savannah. Heat rose from the earth like steam and the temperature would continue to decline steadily. These were the most ideal hunting conditions. From her perch on a large sandy rock, Talarya looked like a ghost against the darkening sky. She smelled the wind for prey, but in these badlands, anything substantial had already been claimed by nomadic groups. Her white color was also disadvantageous as she didn't blend into the grass very well. She wondered if she would go another night without anything to eat...

A Springhare leaped from a cluster of grass - was the tiny morsel worth her energy?

Talarya growled at the hyenas who were fast approaching. She knew that she couldn't take them by herself, so with a roar of truimph over her one kill, she bounded away. She needed to get somewhere safe that she could tend to the wound in her tail that was now beginning to ache.

She was faster than the pack of laughing dogs and was able to shake them off without too much difficulty. Her tail stung annoyingly, but thankfully it wasn't a vital body part to have injured. Her greatest danger was that it could become infected so she needed to find a safe place to clean it.

She looked around and saw a small rise in the ground that would serve as an excellent place to clean her wound. She had quite a good view from the top of it and could see if any danger approached.

Bounding to the top, she settled down and began to lick her wound whilst keeping an eye and an ear our for any sudden movements or noise.

Talarya licked her tail carefully, making sure it was free of dirt. The tang of her own blood on her tongue reminded her of how hungry she was. Sniffing the air, she tried to catch a whiff of something that was small and slow enough for her to catch.

Not scenting anything, she carefully crept down from her perch and stalked off into the night, careful to keep clear of the wild dogs. Presently, the strong smell of wildebeest hit her like a wall. It was dead.
