think i might have posted a few shots up early in year tho wanted to start a new tread with bulid progress etc so heres the story so far..

Any Feedback etc welcome

Quote:

Got this Mk2 back in July and had two or three minds what to do with it... VR6/KR/18T/Diesel/Rebuild 1300.

Ended up on the idea of a diesel lump in there so picked myself up a BKD MK5 140bhp lump of the forum here.. The engine itself has covered around 36k and came with the much loved 6 speed gear box.

Work started on the car two weeks ago and at the minute its really just a sat thing we hope to free up more time over the winter months to get stuck into it, so far we have the old 1300 lump removed and all the trim removed from the car.. with a few other small bits done.. (more updates and pics to follow in the coming days)

Anyways some info on the mk2 itself.

Its a base model CL/Ryder/Gl something like that cant remember off hand:
2 owners from new
Full History
72,400 miles covered on the body.

Heres the Car as i got it..

Cheers mate,

But normal old story :(

Found filter on the rear driver side arch.. So going to replace the whole rear 1/4 panel just.. Thats the only bit in the car with any form of rust so in my mind its not worth tidying up with filter might as well do it right from the ground up..

Floors etc all like new, pics to follow tonight..

Ed would need to get a body man to have a look really.. its not that bad but i am very picky when i start at these things..

I did see an original 1/4 panel on ED38 there few weeks back was ready to buy but because of the above reason I kept the money in the bank and the panel is now sold.. Must try and get a wee pic to show the damage, bearing in mind that i have been picking at it lol

Going to be tricky and tight fit, long way to go yet but at least the front mount fits lol

Next up we need to make a mount for the gearbox with some 6mm steel.

Dont know of any in Irealnd?? Could be wrong?

Also dont know of any mk5 ones? seen a few mk4 PD ones done... If anyone does know of a mk5 one can you link me up as always handy to know someone that has did one before.. Also we think the 6speed box is different on the BKD from the PD mk4 one as well but should not be to much of a issue..

thanks again for the feedback guys will do my best to keep everyone upto speed on the build, looking forward to it.. been awhile from we last worked on a engine change over.

no real plans for extra power a remap will be the hight of it i would say.. Sitting here with 9points at the mo, done for some silly things like my tyre being on the limit and not wearing a seat belt. ^o) lol

Got the steel yesterday so hopefully the mate can start work on the bracket tonight for the gearbox

As for points for a belt and tyre, makes my blood boil, should be out jumping on sex offenders

Nice one Hendy, such a different conversion. Keep the updates coming.

I take it that lump has a DMF? Are you keeping it or going single?

Heard of some vibration probs when converted to single.

@ fastred that be good mate if you can, if i can save any money anywhere on the build it would be a super help.. Main thing first is to get the immobilizer removed, or i wont be going anywhere in it..

@ dubber, what does DMF stand for :$ lol, guy on Ed38 was telling me he had a PD try and rip itself from the car and to go with side mount that comes from the timing belt casing, we had planned to do this tho as the gearbox, has a big drive that runs right across where back mount would go..

heres the progress this week.....

"Ok we did not get a lot done this week as we just found out the hard way that the front mount the one we where using to line everything else up with turned out to be no good..

But hopefully we have it sorted now..

Firstly a pic of the gearbox mount, its still not finished 100% tho it fits so thats the main thing for now..
Posted Image

Bit of cutting being done on the sub frame, from the master mind himself TAB.
Posted Image

heres the engine as it sits now.. note that the front mount will now need to be made.. we had been hoping that the gti front mount would have done the job just like it does on the PD mk2's
Posted Image

Making sure we keep the same length both sides.
Posted Image

drive shafts fitted, looking well :D
Posted Image
Posted Image

also grabed a shot or two of the inside of the car... looking fairly good i must say, no welding needed in here.
