In this year of Faith perhaps we could gather for prayer sometime. I know that we already have an excellent Night Prayer offered by Mairtin but perhaps we could arrange that on a given time each week we will pause, light a candle and pray for each other. Perhaps a Monday lunchtime, however I am open to ideas. The other thing is that We could meet up for mass somewhere in London I have a few contacts who would lend me a chapel and then perhaps a trip to a museum or a bite of lunch. I suggest sometime in May or June next year to give us time to plan... In any event be assured that I will offer mass for members of the Forum and their intentions at least once a week. (Sorry can't commit to a day for other intentions may have to take priority.) |

Yes, a good idea indeed, I would seriously consider travelling over for such an event. Rose has posted elsewhere about London Carmel-in-the-City: Days of Reflection on Vatican II; I was already thinking about coming over for the one on 2 February 2013 - The 2nd Vatican Council & Laity - A Carmelite View, Fr Tony Lester O.Carm., University Chaplain, Carmelite Community York, maybe we could tie it in with that (not that everybody would want to or have to attend the Carmelite event.) (P.S. Love the idea of somebody "lending" a chapel )

Thank you, Penfold. Very interesting indeed. I approve of the choice of prayers and readings for Holy Mass. There is always a 'but'. In the Collect why should the Good News be announced to the Poor only. From readings elsewhere the rich need the news more!. I realise the phrase is in one of the extracts from Sirach (bytway, arv never eard if im). No doubt we shall shortly see and hear a video clip of the hymn. I can't read music. |

A friend sent me this, she found it on the website of a Benedictine convent in the area where she lives, so hopefully it is a reliable source. If you click this link http://www.flocknote.com/catechism you will see a box you can complete, to get a little bit of the Catechism emailed to you each day. After one year you will have read the whole Catechism.
Alternatively you can read each day's little bit by clicking this link. http://www.catholiccrossreference.com/blog/ The first three days' snippets are already on that website. |

for the whole Catechism of the Catholic Church log on this link http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG0015/_INDEX.HTM and the added bonus is that there is also a compendium available. http://www.vatican.va/archive/compendium_ccc/documents/archive_2005_compendium-ccc_en.html There is nothing wrong with the site you have posted Rose it has the Backing of the US Bishops Conference and it does have a handy cross reference to the scriptures and it comes in bite size chunks. I do recommend the compendium, which ever way you choose to read the Catechism. |

When I want to consult the Catechism while I am on the forum I find it quicker and easier to access that or the Compendium via the forum reference library. |

Taken from a Parish Bulletin: "Year of Faith - Year of Blessings Since the main purpose of the Year of Faith is that we might all grow in holiness, the Holy Father has granted his apostolic blessing and the gift of indulgences by virtue of the power conferred upon the Church by Christ. There are certain situations and conditions during the course of the next year when these may be obtained. During the Year of Faith, which will last until 24 November 2013, Plenary Indulgence for the temporal punishment of sins, imparted by the mercy of God and applicable also to the souls of deceased faithful, may be obtained by all faithful who, truly penitent, take Sacramental Confession and the Eucharist and pray in accordance with the intentions of the Supreme Pontiff. Local churches to visit to obtain a Plenary Indulgence are St ........ One must participate in a sacred celebration, or at least remain for a period of time in prayer and pious meditation, concluding with the recitation of the Our Father, the Profession of Faith in any legitimate form, and invocations to the Blessed Virgin Mary and, depending on the circumstances, to the Holy Apostles and patron saints. What is an Indulgence? Handouts giving a comprehensive explanation are available at the back of church" I wasn't aware of this indulgence - was any member of this forum? Three other parishes in the same urban area don't mention it in their bulletins! Edited by Derekap, Thursday, 15. November 2012, 18:07.
