I simply wanted to draw attention to the fact that few places in the world offer a finer sung [service] in a traditional architecture than the Cathedral. It has a superb Father Willis organ and a world-renowned choir. It also has a highly-trained expert team of liturgical practitioners both clerical and lay. And they do confessions.

"Powerful".... In which way? The cult of the priest, or the Consecration?
"Beautiful".... What, once "Mrs laypriest" has finished the flowers?
"Ancient".... What, when most of the congregation are older than it?
"Extraordinary".... Not according to the Holy Father it aint!

Every valid Mass is powerful, thanks to the power of God.
Every valid Mass is beautiful, because it helps us save our souls.
Every valid Mass is ancient because the priest is following Jesus' instruction, given 2000 years ago, to do this in memory of Him.
Every valid Mass is extraordinary because of the miracle that happens at the consecration.

Excellent.
Jesus told us, his disciples, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth” (John 16:13)

Who does? The team of clerical and lay?

I think you will find that what has turned the Irish away from the Church has less to do with the availability of Latin at Mass, and more to do with the abuse of their children by some priests and in the infamous Magdalene homes....

However what chiefly intrigued me about this odd piece of propaganda was that so many well known actors were persuaded to take part, and that having done so, any of them ever worked again....

Angus, the book, Catholics by Brian Moore was written in 1972 and produced by ITV the following year as a TV Play, now available on DVD and from which the film extracts in your you-tube presentation were taken.
1) The book was not only in our reading list at seminary but we were encouraged to study it as a solid example of a monk struggling with his faith and his acceptance through obedience of the new way.
2) The book was a work of fiction that focused on Vatican council IV at a time when the liturgy of Vat II was just becoming common place, it dealt well with the confusion and superstitious that were prevalent at the time, for example Cyril Cusack's character saying the mass had been in Latin for over 2000 years, utter nonsense, the Latin Mass was not the norm until the 4th century and the Tridentine use was not the norm until the 16th and many orders such as the Benedictine's and Dominicans continued to use their own uses to this very day.
3) The myth that Latin Mass was banned, it has never been banned, in England and Wales not only was it never banned but the bishops always retained permission from Rome to allow, at their discretion, the celebration of the Tridentine use.
4) I strongly recommend the book by Brian Moore, the film is not bad either though it lacks the nuances of the book.

It was a busy social weekend visiting friends and singing but I attended a Latin mass today for the first time since VII. The bad news was I found it tedious and uninvolving. The good news was I could remember at least 80% from my early childhood! Where do we store this stuff when I can't remember what I did last week?

The congregation was small and seemed to consist of old ladies in mantillas and retro religion enthusiasts. Not my cuppa tea.
Liberal, ecumenical, universal and it's my church too.
