I think genders are retained in Heaven - I think the existence of gender transcends purely procreative purposes. Our Lady is still a Mother in Heaven. She is quite definitely still female. Just as I would hazard a guess all the Saints have retained their gender in Heaven. Only angels, as I understand it, are androgenous. For some reason, unbeknown to me, God seems to like it that way. Maybe women and men spiritually complement each other also, and it's not just all about continuation of the species? |

They must be retained, we believe in the Resurrection of the Dead. Jesus said there will be no marriage in Heaven. That will put an end to arguments about "head of the family".

I think for those who have had a good, loving marriage, spouses will still recognise each other in Heaven and still be able to love each other. It'll just be different. |

Great! After the Resurrection of the Body we'll all have our childhood bodies back, all little boys and girls will play out in the Celestial playground. The dead men will leave their big boys' toys on earth, and they will play with little boys' toys for eternity. We girls will be safe from lustful males, because little boys say kissing girls is sissy stuff. Dead men will have a role in Heaven. They will run the celestial miniature railway, ain't that their dream of Heaven? |

Forgive me for asking the obvious question... but... Where do you get all this stuff from? Great fun... but does it actually have anything serious to say about reality???

Sorry if I'm misinterpreting you Anne-Marie, but is there anything wrong with me wanting to be with my husband in Heaven??? That is, along with all the rest of my family?? (Sorry, I'm probably missing the point - as usual...) |

Hi, Emee. Nice idea... but where do people get the idea that the next life is going to be a continuation of THIS form of life? I sometimes get fearful that it won't be long before folks want a full-size cinema screen there too! Unless I've missed something in the Good Book, we live this life here in whatever good or ill fortune we may enjoy/endure... and surely we then move on to an entirely new form of life in the Next World! I won't bother discussing the issue of our physical bodies, since they are constantly changing in molecular components and visual appearance - and so our resurrection is best left to theologians (with nothing better to do) to resolve. But Heaven is not here with our present particles, atoms and molecules... and I would hope if I end up in God's presence, I really won't be too bothered about anything else but Him and His home. |

I beg to differ Anne-Marie. Our Lady certainly still has a memory of this life now she is in Heaven, and I do believe the same goes for the Saints - in fact they can even see this life from their own vantage point - so how can it all be forgotten? What would be the point of that? In fact this life is a preparation for Heaven. That is why we are commanded to love one another in preparation for the life to follow. I do believe that those good, worthwhile relationships we have on this earth will continue in Heaven and that goes for if we love our cats and dogs also. I think it is also very important to pray for forgiveness for wrecked relationships because in their damage, grief and pain they could block oneself or the other person from going to Heaven. I do feel very strongly about this. |

When we teach and request the intercession of the Saints, it is based on the belief that " those who have loved us in their earthly life, continue to care and pray for them in heaven". When we hopefully attain heaven we will still know and understand our earthly loves. It will not be the same, yet scripture tells us of all things "love is the greatest" |

Deacon Robert That is just as I understand it also. When we hopefully attain Heaven we will still love all the people we loved on earth (and dare I say more...?), because love is eternal, but it will be "different" - more complete and without all the accompanying crud and baggage this life brings. I for one, am looking forward to it - if God will have me!

Deacon Robert and Emee, that is how I see it as well – only infinitely better than we can imagine. |

Assuming the souls in Heaven will enjoy the presence of the people they loved on Earth will husbands still be heads of their wives? Will women be expected to be subject to their husbands? If so, a lot of women will doubt whether they are in Heaven. How can a couple be each other's best friends if one is in authority over the other? |
