The church my wife and I attend has Holy Mass on Saturday Evening and Sunday Morning. When it comes to Holydays of Obligation the times can vary. During school terms there is a Holy at 9.30 which is attended by the children from its Primary School and some adults and again at 12 noon. Today there was only one Holy Mass and that at 12noon. The Parish Priest is on holiday so we had a retired priest and he said he would be offering Mass tonight about 12 miles away. The Church was about half the normal crowded Sunday Morning congregation consisting of pensioners and a few grandchildren. Of course some would be on holiday, others working and a few may have aimed for the noon Holy Mass about five miles away or the Evening Holy Mass in the same church. |

Due to work committments, I attended New Rite Mass at a Church other than my regular one. I was delighted to read on the door: "'If you want to talk in Church, then talk to Me.' The Blessed Sacrament is the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Our Lord Jesus Christ." |

Immaculate Conception 8 December; Novena in preparation for the feast Day One O most Holy Virgin, who was pleasing to the Lord and became His mother, immaculate in body and spirit, in faith and in love, look kindly on me as I implore your powerful intercession. O most Holy Mother, who by your blessed Immaculate Conception, from the first moment of your conception did crush the head of the enemy, receive our prayers as we implore you to present at the throne of God the favor we now request... [Mention your intention(s) here...] O Mary of the Immaculate Conception, Mother of Christ, you had influence with your Divine Son while upon this earth; you have the same influence now in heaven. Pray for us and obtain for us from Him the granting of my petition if it be the Divine Will. Amen. O God, who by the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, did prepare a worthy dwelling place for Your Son, we beseech You that, as by the foreseen death of this, Your Son, You did preserve Her from all stain, so too You would permit us, purified through Her intercession, to come unto You. Through the same Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, world without end. Amen. |

In an article published by L’Osservatore Romano, Italian historian Francesco Guglietta, an expert on the life of Pius IX, revealed how the Pontiff decided to consult with the bishops of the world to proclaim the dogma of the Immaculate Conception on December 8, 1854.
