Sorry, Rose, have to disagree. Supermarkets operating a price-fixing cartel ARE stealing.........from the farmers who produce the milk. Their living is being stolen .....by these wretches who force down the price so low that it costs the farmer more to produce the milk than the supermarkets are prepared to pay. Many of these farmers have given up milk production. They have to make some profit i.e. a living out of it! |

You and I agree upon that Josephine, and I have just realised, the Papal Encyclicals explain there are two contributors to business. The owners provide their capital in the form on money, the workers in the form of labour, each having a responsibility to the other. The farmers are in business, but I would compare their relationship with the supermarkets to that of employer and worker. The supermarkets have huge financial power. The farmer contributes many unsocial hours. His responsibility is to provide good quality produce. The supermarket has a responsibility towards the farmer. |
