Happy to oblige Peter: When I pasted in a couple of New Testament Biblical verses that clearly said God punishes you responded by saying "no I don't buy it". And when I outlined the history of AIDS (which I lived through and, as a scientist was incredibly interested in). You said again "I dont belive ..." No supporting evidence. Nothing to support any argument against. Just "I don't belive". As for having the last word - unlikely on a discussion forum. Gerry Edited by Gerard, Tuesday, 26. October 2010, 14:26.

Don't worry Peter. I thank God every day that He revises the Plan! Don't worry if you get to Plan Z - then you just go to Z1, Z2 etc.! |

HIV might be a consequence in some cases of sinful behaviour, the sort of thing that can happen if we act without the presence of God in our lives but I don't believe it's a chastisement. I think this is what Bishop Leonard was getting at.
As far as I know, the Church does not teach that AIDS is a punishment from God, either. Why would a God who is Love punish His children through suffering and death? |

God punishes the sinner, no dispute and Gerry has given much scriptural evidence to support the argument. AIDS is a terrible disease, no dispute and again Gerry has given much evidence from science as to its origins. Aids is a punishment from God, no evidence offered to suggest this claim is true only opinion born out of a lack of compassion, perhaps, but certainly only an opinion and one which I do not support and I, from reading between the lines, suggest that Gerry has not suggested that it is. Unfortunately there does seem to be a non sequitur somewhere in the thread that has caused people to link the correct assertion that God Punishes the sinner with the equally correct assertion that AIDS is a terrible disease. The last word, I suspect that is many pages away in the book of life.
