If we have a doctrine of just killing in a just war, is there any reason why we should not have a doctrine of just lying?
I like this because it occured to me that I have always considered Tony Blairs answers to many of the questions regarding Iraq to be 'Just Lies' it has never occured to me that they might have been "Just Lies"

The clever theologians who like to wave their magic wands and turn things into something else like turning lies into "mental reservation", the theological abomination that Cardinal Desmond Connell tried to use to justify telling lies to abuse victims.
He would have claimed his lies were for the greater good.

No, Rose, that might have been a justifiable argument but he didn't say that - Mental Reservation tries to make out that they weren't lies at all.
