Dear All, Please complain about the blasphemous 'Antonio Federici Gelato Italiano' advertising campaign. The Advertising Standards Authority website address is here:- http://www.asa.org.uk which contains an on-line complaints form, which takes one or two minutes to complete. Details of the advertising campaign, with pictures, can be found here:- http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1307140/Pregnant-nun-ice-cream-ad-faces-ban-Catholic-outcry.html Thanks, Jo |

This will be the focus of my complaint http://bcap.org.uk/The-Codes/CAP-Code/CAP-Code-Item.aspx?q=CAP+Code+new_General+Sections_04+Harm+and+offence_Rules#c154
1 Offence will be serious and widespread. There are four million Catholics in England and Wales, that is 1 in 15 of the population. Millions of other Christians, will be offended. 2 This advert appears shortly before the visit of Pope Benedict as a guest of Her Majesty the Queen, our Head of State and Supreme Head of the Church of England. |

Any chance they are breaking the criminal law and could be complained of to the police? Gerry |

I can't think of any relevant criminal offence. |

So according to the Daily Mail, the creative director of this ice cream company says that anyone who objects to the advertisement is part of a bigoted minority. Well I object to the ad and I object to being called a bigot. Trouble is that these days, Christians and Catholics in particular are considered a soft target by the media, hence the constant debasing of our faith. As well as objecting to the awful advertisement why don't we hit this company where it hurts - in the pocket! Boycott their product and encourage others to do the same. Wouldn't it be truly power to the people if every church in the land made mention of the offending ad in their weekly newsletter and encouraged parishoners not to by the product advertised. I bet this so called creative director wouldn't have had the nerve to offend Islam in this way. I detest cowardly acts such as this. |

The adverts are worse than I thought. At the foot of the page is an adverts showing a nun wearing the full habit, being kissed by a man, obviously naked, wearing a clerical collar, and with rosary beads around his heck. To save protestors time when compleeting the form The advertised product is Gelato Italiano ice cream. The advertiser is Antonio Federici. The adverts appear in Grazia, Look and The Lady magazines. If you complain about any organisation a common wriggle out is "hardly anybody else has complained". It's only a handful who are making a fuss". That does not make it right to publish such offensive material. The silent majority would rather be kicked around than put their names to complaints. Bigoted views of a minority over the majority? In other words it is OK to humilate and insult other people, for the fun of it, and to make profit. Who says the majority are not offended by the advert? Hit them where it hurts, in the bank account. We should also urge our families and fellow Catholics to cancel any order for the magazines Grazia, Look and The Lady magazines.
He's whinging already, that the banning of the ads will cost the company a lot of money. Tough! He should have stopped to think of the offence caused to millions of Christians and no doubt some people of other faiths, and some atheists who object to abuse of that which any person holds dear, being abused. |

I certainly agree that those ads have gone beyond the bounds of decency but I always wonder whether public protests about the likes of that just end up giving them more publicity. A shower of letters directly to the company calmly telling them that people will simply no longer be buying their product would be less high profile but might potentially be more disturbing to the company. |

Unfortunately that's always the danger Mairtin as already we see it's in the Daily Mail and presumably other rags- free publicity indeed. However, I'd like to think that any fair minded person, after seeing the ad, would give this company and its products a wide berth. I also think that as Catholic Christians we should stand up for what we believe in - we've rolled over maybe too many times in the past. |

I emailed complaints to two magazines, I cannot find the contact email addresses for Look Magazine. My emails went to editorial department, it is likely the advertising department will take no notice. graziadaily@graziamagazine.co.uk editors@lady.co.uk |
