Is this a twosome, or can anybody join in? I'm beginning to feel like an intruder. Personally I think it would be good if all parties could put their heads together and think of constructive ways of making some progress at reducing (with the aim of eventually eliminating) abortions.

We will get nowhere with what appears to be a dialogue, with others chipping in occasionally.

Anyhow, has your preferred method proved successful, Mairtin?
It's kind of hard for something to be proved succesful without it actually being tried out :deadhorse:

I'd be delighted to see other people to join in, Rose. I've given my opinions on what could be changed and I'd really like to hear other people's views on them or alternative ideas of their own.

Abortion in my opinion is one of the greatest scandals of modern society and should be a relatively easy one to tackle but I honestly just can't see anything that is being done at the minute making any real impact.

At least five things are necessary, separately or in combination:

1. Persuade people of the value of chastity.

2. Persuade people that abortion is a moral issue.

3. Persuade people that the fertilised ovum instantly has the status of a human being.

4. Provide good sex education from an early age.

5. Provide good care and support for the pregnant woman who wishes she weren't.

Good luck with that agenda - particularly number 3.

Alternatively, persuade Rupert Murdoch to campaign against it - with all the visual imagery at his command.

Just an afterthought- there is nothing to suggest that the scourging of the Temple made any difference to anything - except for that day's transactions.

I'd recommending persuading them that a 24 week old foetus is a human being and work down from that.

I think that's the kernel of this issue. The pro-abortionists have been very, very successful at getting the media on their side, we have been dreadfully bad at it.

Without wanting to get up on my favourite hobby horse again, however, I think that is a problem than permeates all aspects of our failure to spread the Good News and requires wider radical review, not just on abortion.

Yup, my mistake. It doesn't make much difference though. Our Lord's reaction was still what one might call "extreme"! And I am certainly not criticising Him for it.

Number 4 is totally unnecessary, and indeed forbidden.

I agree, there needs to be a wider radical view, and one that recognises contraception as part of the problem.
