On reflection I agree that Fr.Loftus needs our prayers. And it is possible that he may be sick as Patrick indicated above.
He is. I managed to read some of the old topics before deletion, there were many mentions of hospitals, doctors, severe pain and tiredness. That is what led to him retiring. Stress will have an adverse effect.

Edit:

I made a mistake, PJD was talking about Mgr Loftus, not Fr Clifton. Thanks to Clare for pointing this out.

Have we had enough gossip on this thread for the time being?

This mini-revival of this thread deepens my doubts about whether any blog advances the cause of Christ or His Church.

I consider some of the blogs produced by priests do incalculable harm. One mocks and sneers so badly about any liturgy or practice that does not suit HIM, that I now ignore links to his blog. It causes so much anger in me, my thoughts when I read it were on the lines of "What a nasty conceited man." A person who is not a Catholic might come across the blog, and judge all priests, by the unpleasantness of one self opinionated weasel.

Now that I have said all that, I would not dare name the man, it could be a breach of the forum rule not to libel, so I ask other members not to post guesses about his identity.

OK - will refrain.

Are we sure they are genuine priests or bishops and not people claiming to be such or even stealing the identities of genuine persons?

You can check Msgr Loftus' credentials by 'phoning Kevin Flaherty at The Catholic Times. For Frs Blake and Clifton, contact the Vatican.

An imposter would soon be unmasked, somebody would mention the blog to the real priest, and he would be able to ask the service provider to block the blog from being transmitted over the internet.

Msgr. Loftus: Are you a scrub?
Posted on 19 October 2010 by Fr. John Zuhlsdorf

From His Hermeneuticalness:

Fr Michael Clifton, long time pastor of the faithful, former archivist of Southwark, learned historian, kindly teacher of schoolboys (including me, nearly 40 years ago) cricket coach, model railway enthusiast, and warm friend and mentor of younger clergy now feels that he must close his blog because he has been threatened with legal action by Monsignor Basil Loftus who writes a weekly column for the Catholic Times.

Fr. Clifton, whom I have met, is a gentleman.

If Msgr. Loftus threatened Fr. Clifton in that way, then Loftus is a scrub.

UPDATE: 20 Oct 0048 GMT
At issue, apparently is Msgr. Loftus’ understanding of the physical resurrection of the Lord.

Were someone Christian to deny that Christ had His physical Body after the resurrection, he would be a heretic.

Fr. Finigan ably teased out some of the details of what Msgr. Loftus’ position is.

In a recent article for the Catholic Times, Mgr Loftus speculated on the nature of Christ’s risen body. He quoted St Paul’s talk of a “spiritual body” after the resurrection and then quite wrongly drew the conclusion that Christ “was not physically present when he appeared to the disciples after the resurrection.“

Fr. Finigan makes some observations about what Christians believe:

The idea that Christ’s risen body was not physical was refuted as long ago as the second century by St Irenaeus. (Adversus Haereses 5.7.1)

The 4th Lateran Council (1215) states succinctly in its profession of faith:

He descended in the soul, rose in the flesh, and ascended in both.

Were someone to suggest that Christ did not have a physical body after the resurrection, well… he would be a heretic.

If he refused to be corrected, he would be an obstinate heretic. He would perhaps even incur the ecclesiastical penalty of excommunication.

Were such a person to make statements in public, he must in justice correct his error in public.

A priest broadcasting such errors in public would cause serious scandal. He would need to make amends.

Am I wrong? Did I get this wrong?

"Am I wrong? Did I get this wrong?"

On the surface it appears Patrick that you have not got the 'principle' wrong. But as I said before - in the case of commenting on the theology of the Sacrifice of The Mass - it is very easy to stray in the metaphysical sense. What puzzled me is why members here didn't immedaitely discover what the row was really about.

Fr Clifton is ill. It has been suggested Mgr Loftus may be ill. Are we helping or hindering them on here? If there is to be litigation, both will have legal advisors. If not, the sooner the dust settles the better.

"The above was quoted from Father Zuhlsdorf."

That may well be so Patrick. But you had the insight to put it on here; which in my opinion was of some importance.
