Good point PJD and for the record I think our bishops by and large do a very decent job of keeping the show on the road.

Ruth Gledhill has an (IMHO) excellent article on blogging Cry 'havoc', and let slip the blogs of war
The article will appear tomorrow in the Church of England Newspaper.
I was going to post about James MacMillan's letter to the Tablet, but given their propensity to sue I'll leave those interested to follow the link,or look at Damian's blog

given their propensity to sue

Any examples to illustrate what you mean, KatyA?

I was thinking of the occasion Fr.Finnigan was warned about breach of copyright. I'll try to find the relevant entry. Perhaps I should have said propensity to threaten to sue - because I think they addressed other bloggers who reproduced letters, however I'm not 100% certain on that.

Thanks. I see. One complaint about breach of copyright. While I accept that size doesn't matter, it's a rather small propensity. They didn't seem to mind when I posted a number of letters to them on this forum. Perhaps they didn't notice. You would still be entirely at liberty to post about MacMillan's letter (which is what you said you were refraining from), even if you drew back from posting the letter itself.

When the Tablet's publisher wrote to me (and copied to the paper's lawyers) his complaint about my breach of copyright (in quoting the Curti article in full and commenting on it) he invited me to send in a letter to the editor.

I recall reading that letters published were also copyright, but I haven't found that yet. I can't remember which blog it was on.

However, I see you have posted again as I type this, and I accept your point. It was an unnecessary and unsubstantiated dig and I should not have said it. Mea culpa

Thanks KatyA. As you may remember I get wearied by the sniping at The Tablet.

Some of us get wearied by the Tablet's disloyalty and dissent.

My fault for making remarks about the Tablet in a thread about blogging. I was going to delete the offending sentence but I see there have been further posts

Pax et bonum certainly. (That must always be on topic I guess)

I just have no time for blogs and I find links to them annoying - I rarely access them. Still those who do must enjoy them so each to their own.

I prefer to read books and newspapers than blogs - they tend to be easier on the eyes and generally better written.

With you entirely on that one Carlo--most of them are tedious in the extreme and very poorly written.

I really like blogs (you may have noticed) and I think they are an excellent means of evangelisation as well as keeping up with current "Church news" not necessarily reported in the wider media. Sometimes they are quite earnest but most are written in light hearted tone , as with this piece from Gerald Warner
