Blogging and the Church

According to Amazon it is published in the Uk by the Catholic Truth Society under the title:YOUCAT: The Official Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church.

I am not sure what books, if any, the Vatican publishes. The "official" publications of which I am aware are all published by independent publishers under contract to the Church.

Neither did I recognise any names but for curiosity visited three websites and I wasn't impressed.

One had a rather an interesting item of news - that of Joan Lewis (No.59 on the list). She says You Cat is not a Vatican publication. It is not written by anyone or any office in the Vatican nor was it published there. She says she wrote about the book on her April 13 blog - but I couldn't trace it. She didn't mention on the page I saw who published it.

I did some research, to find out whether YouCat was produced at the Vatican, and have made a detailed post on our YouCat thread

I like the name of this one.

The Pulp.it.

About ThePulp.it

The Pulpit looks to deliver the very best in punditry on the Catholic Church. We hope to successfully serve both Catholics and non-Catholics alike in better understanding God and the world.

The majority of the articles we provide will be those offering in-depth analysis and insight from around the Catholic blogosphere. The rest of the links we provide are whimsical in nature, but will be sure to inform!

Expect two editions posted daily Monday through Friday and once on Saturday and Sunday. Anything more only means there were more articles that I felt needed to be shared and hence the extra editions!

Any idiot can write a blog and http://www.blogger.com will be happy to provide the new blogger/writer with all s/he needs. In fact most blogs referred to in these posts are hosted by blogger.

Proof that any idiot can write a blog - here's mine: http://mickcooksplace.blogspot.com/
It just takes a click to update my Facebook wall with details of my latest effort, or to tweet to whoever's interested, with over 2,000 hits I seem to have been noticed.

So why shouldn't a parish priest who can deliver a half-decent sermon use blogger? If you're on Facebook, why not try to express yourself by writing your own blog? Make sure you check your facts and you should be okay.

Have a good rant!

I'm not sure if I have mentioned this in the past, but every member here has the use of a personal blog as part of their membership on the forum. Your blog can be created/accessed via "Preferences" at the top and "my blog", located under Profile options.

I saw that, but it's no longer "Holy Smoke", is it? It just looks like a collection of ferret-authored news posts.

At the end of each article click "read more". It is still a blog, with comments published.

But, Holy Smoke, as it was, no longer exists as a blog.

If you click Religion on the list of Telegraph blogs, you will see just one blog with items by a few journalists. Damian Thompson's most recent contribution was made on 6th February.

DT and his Holy Smoke are now twittering.

That man's face gives me the creeps. He really does look like a ferret. I can imagine him poking that pointed little nose of his into a bishop's keyhole to see if he can smell roast beef on a Friday.

He was once described by The Church Times as a "blood-crazed ferret". He is on Twitter as HolySmoke.

But, Holy Smoke, as it was, no longer exists as a blog.
It stopped being called "Holy Smoke" a couple of years ago. All the Telegraph blogs dropped their names, for example Gerald Warner's blog used to be called "Is it just me?", but then it lost that title.
