A seminar on blogging has been organised by the Oxford University Newman Society, to be held at the Catholic Chaplaincy on Friday, February 15, 2008 from 6-8:30 pm on the theme, ‘Blogging and the Church.’ The speakers are # Rev’d Fr John T Zuhlsdorf, author of What does the Prayer Really Say?’ # Rev’d Fr John Hunwicke, author of ‘Fr Hunwicke’s Liturgical Notes # Br Lawrence Lew OP, ‘contributor on ‘Godzdogz’ # Matthew Doyle, author of ‘Lacrimarum Valle’ catholic chaplaincy I wonder if the day will come when every Parish Priest has a blog?? |

Hope so - to dilute out the current crop of loud but fringe characters. Gerry |

Blogs are powerful tools, they can be used for or against the Church. I would like to see more blogs written by parish priests, newly ordained priests, nuns and monks, it would help us see things from their point of view. |

Gerry Yes very droll Gerry (I hope that's how you spell that word) Blogs are powerful tools, they can be used for or against the Church. Not so sure about that Rose; they can be a cop-out from using the standard Catholic forums. PJD |

I do not read any blogs regularly. From time to time I may dip into one more out of politeness to the writer who has urged me to do so, but inevitably the contents quickly bore me. Still I have no objection to blogs and I wish only good things to those who write them provided they intend no evil to the Church. Hopefully our Parish Priests will not rush into writing blogs. They have far more important spiritual matters to deal with and so little time in which to do so. Oremus Trying not to sound superior CARLO |

Same here Carlo except I'm not so polite as you. Very rarely go into blogs - or links if you like - no so much as boring, but little really new information. PJD |

CARLO has brought me to my senses. I have yet to call a priest to my house in emergency but if and when I do, I would be most displeased if he were to say "Can't it wait? I have a blog to update." Some parish priests do have blogs. Fair enough if they do that on their day off. |

Derek a blog is a personal website that can be read by any member of the public. You make a blog, give it a name and put what you want on it. Very handy if you want to get on your soap box. Bloggers tend to invite comments. Comments are not posted publicly until the blog owner approves them. So, if you are a Tory and you have a personal blog you use for saying things about political issues, you can decide whether to let anti-Tory comments appear. This is a blog run by a parish priest. http://the-hermeneutic-of-continuity.blogspot.com/ and here is the one owned by Damien Thompson http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/ukcorrespondents/holysmoke/ |

Thank you Rose! I suspected it was but wasn't sure. I think you all read enough of me without my setting-up a Blog. In any case I haven't time to spend on such. So don't look for me on a cyber soap box. |

Fr Finigan has used today's blog entry to draw attention to CAFOD's engagement of Dermot O'Leary to front their latest campaign.
hermeneutic of continuity I admit to sharing some of Fr Finigan's concerns regarding CAFOD and support ACN instead. KatyA |

One of my favorite blogs by a parish priest. This guy is very good...whole parish came home from Anglican Church...and of course, like many converts - very orthodox. Check it out. http://www.atonementparish.blogspot.com/ |

I've just spent well over an hour splitting this topic, transferring postings to Church buildings http://z10.invisionfree.com/Catholic_Cyber...p?showtopic=566 Clerical dress http://z10.invisionfree.com/Catholic_Cyber...p?showtopic=688 and a new thread, Anglican Rite parishes http://z10.invisionfree.com/Catholic_Cyber...?showtopic=1611 I did my best to ensure they all make sense, and that each posting went into the right place. The problem was we had gone off on so many tangents it was hard to see what this one was about. Can we keep this one for the subject of Catholic blogs, please? I have tried but failed to find the blog of a priest who does not have the "traditional" stamp. Can anybody help please? |
