For anyone who did not see it, I recommend today's broadcast of "Songs of Praise" which had coverage on St Therese and the relics, a piece on Cardinal Newman, a description of Padre Pio intervening in response to prayer and a tribute to Mary, "the greatest of all the Saints".

:agree:

I think it was well worth watching, some good Trad hymns and a few modern ones but it was the snippets in between that were the cream.

Happy Couple!
Thanks for this! I'm watching it now on iPlayer
I usually give SofP a miss because it's so protestant biased!

“It is most laudable in a married woman to be devout,
but she must never forget that she is a housewife.
And sometimes she must leave God at the altar
to find Him in her housekeeping.”

Thanks for that, Mak. I've just started listening to it on iPlayer.
I was busy enjoying the other half of my small crab when it was broadcast - and i'm full up again!
We sang 'For all the Saints' as our Processional last evening.

Well, I've just finished watching in - and I recalled why I no longer watch the programme!
It was lovely and very moving hearing that extraordinary story of St.Pio - but the 'exotic' hymns, which many a congregation would have difficulty singing, were sung by a small choir of nine in an otherwise empty church. I find that soulless and irritating.
Only the last hymn, 'Tell Out My Soul', which is one of my favourites, was sung in a packed church - Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral, I believe. I wish they were all like that, as they used to be.

Mak - thanks for alerting us to that SoP program.

I've just watched it on I-Player and really enjoyed it, especially the Padre Pio clip and the singing of the children - who always seem to put so much into it don't they? Very enjoyable.
