I know there is a thead already running on Eucharistic Adoration but I thought this warranted a new one. I have a particular love for Chapels of Perpetual Adoration or churches that have extensive Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. I find those in city centres particularly useful for a quick prayer when on a day visit, also they very often have Mass around lunchtime and/or late afternoon which can be suitable. I thought it might be useful to compile a directory of such chapels or churches; I have also set up a Google Map to help people identify ones in a particular area or region where they might be visiting. Please note that due to the risk of anyone deliberately defacing the map, I have had to disable the facility for people to add their own links, you have to post details here for me* to add the link. Please give details in the following format:
If you cannot get the information into the character restrictions, just post them here as best you can or PM them to me and I will make suggestions. To get this started, I have given a few examples of chapels and churches I have used myself as detailed below. (*This is a personal initiative by me but the moderators have given me permission to promote it here; I have also given admin access to the moderators so thay can directly modify the map if I am not available for a period. If people like the idea then I might look at the possibility of creating other maps e.g. one of Holy Places to visit.) Link to Google Map Edited by Mairtin, Saturday, 31. October 2009, 10:14.

Rome St. Peter's Basilica There is a beautiful Blessed Sacrament Chapel about halfway along the right hand side of the basilica which is strictly for praying only, not sightseeing. http://saintpetersbasilica.org/Altars/BlSacrament/BlSacrament.htm |

Added, Pat. Can you check the location on the map please, none of the online maps actually show Hyde Park Place but I think I was able to figure it out. (Note: To check a location on the map, click on a marker to centre it and then use the zoom in scale on the left of the map; the black dot in the centre of the marker is the exact location.) |

For the benefit of everyone, the convent is on the road immediately on the north side of Hyde Park. Go west from Marble Arch (a very distinctive structure you just can't miss in the middle of the one-way system at the western end of Oxford Street) and it is a VERY short way along the road on the right (the north side of the road - the park being on the other side!). |

Mairtin, the location is correct. If you type the postcode into multimap and zoom in your will see Hyde Park Place, adjacent to the red circle. http://www.multimap.com/maps/#map=51.51328,-0.16345|18|4&bd=useful_information&loc=GB:51.51323:-0.16358:16|London%20W2%202LJ|W2%202LJ |

Funny, I tried multimap earlier with the actual address but it couldn't find Hyde Park Place even though it's on their map! Quick tip; if you want to find a place and you know the name of the person or business, then look up the telephone number in the phonebook at BT.com. Along with the number, they give you a link to a map which usually is more prceise than a postcode which can sometimes cover a sizeable area. That's how I found this one by looking up "Tyburn Convent". BTW, have you ever tried bing.com\maps? Their bird's eye views are based on aerial photos and are far superior to Google's satellite photos. Here's the one for Tyburn Convent - click on Bird's Eye |
