As with everything I do, I'm gonna be awkward! Bohemian sekt is far better and cheaper than champers; Oloroso sherry (the sweet sort from Sainsbury's, of course) is a pretty good starter; Fruit liqueur is rather nice with a mug of coffee; Cointreau and Grand Marnier are lovely (I'm sure oranges are meant to be famous for something... );Benediktbeurer Kloster Gold is a great after-dinner tipple (from München, where else?); Coffee must be Jakobs Kronung (German, naturally!); Tea MUST be Earl Grey (who would drink any other sort? ); Orangina must be Sanguine (the blood orange variety is only available in France); Water just HAS to be Sant'Anna from northern Italy (I have to go there to get it... for my pride!); Port is fine occasionally; Brown ale (if you can find it, 'cos 'Newcastle' is yuck!) has to be drunk with lemon squash - as does sweet Vermouth; Green ginger wine needs water; Whisky is undrinkable without an equal portion of orange squash - really! And for the record... a bottle of wine (still or sekt) will last me at least three days!!! Blood, as in Communion, aside... what do we think about drink... and about the solid stuff we should also consume? For food, the simpler the better for me - why on earth would I want to eat it after it's been mucked about with so I can't see and taste the food??? Why ruin it? My idea of a veggie meal is beans on toast; my idea of acceptable messed-about-with food is a shepherds pie, or mashed potato (providing it's me mashing it!)... with some protein, of course! I mean, you can't have a real meal without meat or fish Edited by Anne-Marie, Friday, 16. October 2009, 19:59.

Certainly not! I have pressure caps to fit to the bottle between uses. You're forgetting, Po1, that French bubbly, like French bread, ain't up ter much beyond immediate use - definitely third rate stuff, the French

Agreed. I'm sure that the sixth commandment had whisky/whiskey in mind - "You shall not commit adultery". Edited by Powerofone, Friday, 16. October 2009, 20:16.

Well, I sincerely hope whisky isn't childrated Or perhaps it should be... then you'd never manage to get drunk on the stuff

I'm afraid I can only drink whisk(e)y with ginger ale. And when I've a bad cold, I'll have it with honey and hot water. Lemon too, if we have any. |

Single malt whisky - a dash of water releases the oils and enhances the taste. (Gosh, I haven't had whisky for years!) Fullers London Pride, Stones Bitter (the stuff you get up north, not the swill that comes to London), Bishops Finger, Damselfly. Champagne (any kind) Cheese on toast! |

It is acceptable to add water, lemonade, coca-cola, orange or whatever one pleses to whisky. BUT WHISKEY should be given the respect that it deserves and should remain the beautiful liquid that it naturally is, then it will bring a pleasant tingle to the taste buds, a warm glow to the stomach and great joy to the tippler. |
