When folks start talking about banning guns, banning alcohol (or at any rate, advertising it), banning smoking, banning travel (or trying to limit it to one overseas journey a year, as the present fascist government is trying to do!)...
I always wonder:
Why we allow people to use cars (there would be no road accidents if we got rid of them);
Why we allow people to use public transport (if we all stayed at home, we wouldn't need to spend money on a transport infrastructure);
Why we allow people to eat any food we (or at least the powers that be) have not already approved of as healthy;
Why we allow children to use play equipment (they might get hurt if they get boisterous);
Why... oh, any of millions of stupid ideas fascist idiots get for controlling us :clare:

If they tried such nonsense in France, the government would be overthrown!

E-Borders

You will soon be required to answer 53 questions whenever you leave Britain to travel abroad, even within the EU.
No other EU country has this requirement – only Britain!

Shortly, whenever you leave Britain you will have your fingerprints taken and will be forced to answer questions like:
Details of everyone in your party;
The addresses and contact ’phone numbers of all the places you will be staying - inability to do this, such as bed & breakfasting at random, will render you a terror suspect;
Your vehicle registration (they photograph it as you check-in already anyway);
The number of the credit card(s) you used to pay for your trip and accommodation.

This and all the other required information will be automatically handed to the taxman, the police, the security service and UK border control.
You will not be allowed to leave Britain without first supplying this information!

This is a Snoopers Charter of unprecedented proportions - If you want to know where the former Stasi officers are, they’re obviously here, with far more power than they ever enjoyed under communism!

Other countries have merely a ‘Watch List’ of suspected terrorists, who they monitor.
In Britain, every one of us will be watched and monitored….
God, being everywhere and seeing everything, is the least of your worries compared with the British government, who can’t keep your personal information secret at the best of times!

Of course, you mustn't forget they have tried so hard to persuade you to 'protect' your children by tagging them, so you'll always know where they are to keep them safe. Or, as you won't be told, so they with the present young generation, the British government will have 24-hour monitoring of every single individual during the whole of their lives

WELCOME TO THE LAND OF THE FREE!

This and all the other required information will be automatically handed to the taxman, the police, the security service and UK border control.
The taxman wants it because if a person under investigation thinks "they won't be able to prove how much I make, I get the customer to buy the materials so there is no proof I did the job, then they pay me in cash for my time." The taxman's starting point in an inquiry is "did you go on holiday, please provide details of bank and credit card payments for anything over a certain amount on items other than food and housekeeping, what are your housing and utlity costs?" Add them up, if they come to more than the total declared, questions are asked, "Where did the money come from?" I imagine the police might use similar methods when questioning suspected drug dealers. So, what next? Will sales of cars, domestic appliances and furniture be made available to the authorities?

By all means let them conduct thorough investigations into suspects, but please do not treat us all as communally suspect.

"Anne Marie, this is not a fascist government."

You may be right there John; but if not then marxist.

And it is certainly not very democratic; bullies and cowards, going towards totalitarianism.

Could we have a source for this please?
Originally in 'The Times' in March, then in 'The Telegraph' and others... and most recently in 'The Big Issue', where a half page was given to the matter.
There have also been questions in the House of Commons, as the proposals would apply to every journey by ship, even within Britain! The Isle of Wight MP was assured it would not be applied to cross-Solent journeys to The Island, though the Order does not actually exempt it... so once it comes into force, they can do what the heck they like with impunity!

Anne-Marie do you know the name of the parliamentary bill, if one has been introduced, or the name of a parliamentary committee that are discussing this? Is it to be European Union legislation?

The bit that affected the Isle of Wight, was:
Merchant Shipping and Maritime Security Act 1997

If you google 'e borders' a whole lot of info will appear, even questions about whether the action is lawful under EU Law - and even whether HMG gives a stuff about the EU on this one issue!

It's only just about to be enforced, even though the legislation has been around for a decade!

It could be argued that extreme measures are called for for as long as we we are in crisis, due to terrorism and drug dealing. Much depends upon how effectively the powers that be control access to the information. Hopefully it will be strictly on a need to know basis.
