In my younger days I listened to Toytown, Romany and other Childrens' Hour programmes from the North Regional Programme (of the BBC).

It would be nice if TV still finished at some point - my wife is partially deaf, so I can't get to sleep till she turns it off and comes to bed!

Other than that I don't miss the test card any more - I haven't been able to look at it the same way since Life on Mars!

I'm away, so can't check, but from memory that introduces the shipping forecast. Radio 4 then closes down. Then the National Anthem. That may be the end of Radio 4 or the beginning of the World Service, but I think the former. Lilliburlero used to introduce the World Service, and may still do so.
You know, this is killing me! :arggh: :hissyfit:

I've tried staying up late to listen for this and, despite having a bad spell of insomnia lately, I keep dropping off and waking up about an hour later with the world service babbling away. :hammer:

Last night I was caught up at work until 11:30 and got home after midnight. I heard the music [sailing by] prior to late shipping forecast but then fell asleep before the crucial close down and hand over to the world service.

:pl: can anyone give a definitive answer about the close down? :thanks:

Yes. Radio four has the shipping forecast preceded by Sailing by then it has a final word from the continuity announcer who wishes us goodnight. There is a roll of drums and the National Anthem Plays. After the National Anthem the World Service moves onto the vacated frequency until 5:30 am when Radio 4 comes back on air.
