Quicunque vult

Yes. In the Westminster Archdiocese 870 people will be received into the Catholic Church at Easter. Let us all pray for them and their families.

Today I attended a funeral in a C of E Church.

At the gathering afterwards a woman told me she has never studied religion deeply, but has always been aware that there must be a creator, and there can only be one. In the past fortnight she has been to three funerals. She was so impressed by a Catholic funeral, at which the priest said he would explain, step by step, what each part of the Requiem was about, that she is close to making her mind up, to take serious steps towards becoming a Catholic.

The woman had been impressed because the Catholic funeral was the one where the accent was on the soul of the deceased, rather than looking back nostaligally to the person's life on earth. She also said the Catholic priest was not frightened to mention that all souls need prayer (none of this talk about the deceased definitely being in Heaven already). I was able to advise the lady that group meeting are held, starting September, where she can discuss and learn about the Catholic faith, and assure her I know that priest, she will be under no pressure, he will talk to her at the appropriate level for her, and will make her welcome at his church, whatever her decision.

It's wonderful this lady had such an honest introduction to the Faith and the priest handled it beautifully. One of the things we always stressed in RCIA was that no question is too silly or dumb. All questions are valid when learning about the Faith and it certainly clarifies the many falsehoods so many people believe about the Catholic Church. Once people get the facts and can learn about all the facets of the Church, then they can be informed and begin to ask more indepth questions. And, because the priest did say there is no pressure and if a person finds it isn't right for them, they aren't forced into anything.

I am so happy to see so many new people coming into the Church this year. I think with the economic downturn around the world, people's values tend to focus on more spiritual matters, values which are more basic - away from the materialism which has just been proven to be fleeting. Values of home, family and faith are really making a comeback in a huge way and this is fantastic. It doesn't matter where you live! :cool2:

Rose,

I think that more conversions result from one-on-one encounters such as this than any amount of preaching, advertising, etc...

Well done.

I refrained from exchanging phone numbers with the lady, pushiness can be off putting. We got on very well and talked about many things not related to religion. She is friendly with the daughter of the lady who was buried, so she knows how to find me if she wants to continue the discussion.

I thought the language of the Church was Latin not Italian - or so many defenders of Latin tell me.

I thought it was divine and that the Good Lord can speak in a silent whisper, or the still small voice, it’s us who :megaphone: and demand grammatical correctness is it Conjunctive Clause or the Gerundive . :stirthepot:

According to wikipedia
Quote:

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

Quote:

Application of the term troll is highly subjective. Some readers may characterize a post as trolling, while others may regard the same post as a legitimate contribution to the discussion, even if controversial. The term is often used as an ad hominem strategy to discredit an opposing position by attacking its proponent.
Often, calling someone a troll makes assumptions about a writer's motives. Regardless of the circumstances, controversial posts may attract a particularly strong response from those unfamiliar with the robust dialogue found in some online, rather than physical, communities. Experienced participants in online forums know that the most effective way to discourage a troll is usually to ignore him or her, because responding tends to encourage trolls to continue disruptive posts — hence the often-seen warning: "Please do not feed the trolls".

Can 'trolling' not be considered, purely and simply, teasing?

Now you know, Fortunatus, why I was called a wind-up merchant on another forum to which I no longer contribute. (Not because of that!).

Sorry, Penfold, I can't answer your query, I can't tell my ablatives from my datives and neither from my nominatives or accusatives.
