Church removes Zambia archbishop
Archbishop Emmanuel Milingo with Maria Sung at their wedding in May 2001
Milingo married a South Korean woman at a mass wedding
Pope Benedict XVI has excommunicated a Zambian archbishop, Emmanuel Milingo, two days after he ordained four married men as bishops.

A Vatican statement said he had been automatically excommunicated under church law because of his actions.

Archbishop Milingo, 76, who now lives in the US, performed the ordination ceremony in Washington DC on Sunday.

The Catholic diocese in Washington immediately declared the installations to be invalid.

Correspondents say that Archbishop Milingo has long been a controversial figure in the Roman Catholic Church.

Six years ago, he married a South Korean woman at a mass wedding in New York organised by the Korean-based Unification Church - the so-called "Moonies".

He was later persuaded by the Vatican to renounce the marriage, but has since rejoined his wife.

Mass exorcisms

The Zambian preacher was nominated archbishop of Lusaka at age 39, a post he held for 14 years before a disagreement with the Vatican over his activities as a healer and an exorcist.

He was recalled to Rome in 1983 but managed to keep his rank of archbishop.

Archbishop Milingo then gained a strong following in a Church where he had been stationed near Rome because of his reputation as an exorcist.

But Catholic officials accused him of promoting African indigenous beliefs by performing mass exorcisms and healing ceremonies.

Mr Milingo announced earlier this year that his new mission was to persuade the Church to allow priests to marry.

"The Holy See has patiently witnessed the evolution of the events which, unfortunately, have led Archbishop Milingo to a state of irregularity and progressive open break from communion with the Church," the Vatican said in a statement.

The Vatican statement cited his "attempted marriage" and Sunday's ordinations.

The four married men he ordained on Sunday were also automatically excommunicated, it said.

What bothers me is:

1 There are now four rogue bishops, thanks to this man. Between them they could cause havoc.

2 Somebody recommended this man for the position of Archbishop. Why did his fellow bishops of the time not raise a fuss?

Maybe we can post about what it was like growing up, fun memories of our childhood, going to Mass (or wherever we were brought up in our faith journey).

Okay, I'll start. I began to read when I was quite small. When my mother would take me to church (I was brought up Anglican), the way to keep me quiet during the service was to give me a book to read. She made the mistake one Sunday of giving me one with pictures of animals. I saw a photo of some fuzzy thing I loved and immediately screamed out loud - during the sermon. My mother turned fifty shades of red, tried to shut me up (which of course was an impossibility), then ended up dragging me out of the pew, down a portion of the aisle and into the church hall. Not only was I screaming with delight, I was also screaming in frustration from being dragged away from my book and my poor mother was mortified by the entire event. :o How do our priests manage to get through the Mass when the kids scream like that?

Maybe next time I will post about shoving mashed potatoes up my nose!!!!!

Today I went to the Hospital and saw the poor people outside having a fag. As of next week this will have to stop due to a no smoking policy in or around the hostpital.
As an ex smoker I feel very sorry for the people who through no falt of thier own have this habit and are told that they can no longer smoke even outside. To me this is barbaric, can you imagin being told that your child has just died, or that someone in the family has just pasted away, and you are a smoker, the first thing you reach for is a fag to calm you down. I know how they feel and it is no good for some body to tell you that you can go without, it is not that simple, the habit is very strong and no matter how many people tell you it's easy it is not. So please show a little christian friendship to the poor soles. Let them have a ciggy someware .

The best way to post an image from the internet is to upload the URL of the image into an 'image host' like Photobucket or Imageshack. It is worthwhile remembering that, if you use an image host, to not delete the image from there - if you do, the image you hosted there and posted here will appear like this:

Posted Image

If you 'hotlink' straight from a website, there is a possibility that some time in the future, the website you obtained the image from may either delete the image or move it to a different location. This would mean that your image posted here will no longer show.

If any members have any questions regarding posting images or using an image host, please post your question on this thread and I'll do my best to help.

Thank you,

I can apprieciate that giving up smoking is hard to do and I think you are Eros have done amazingly well for kicking the habit.
As a non-smoker myself, never taken up the habit, I just wish that smokers can also appreciate that we also have a right not to breath in what smokers have just breathed out.
The hospital I worked in has a no smoking policy and there is an exclusion zone round the outside the hospital premises too. But in all fairness to smokers I do think they can provide a 'smoking room' for stressed patients. they used to have one, but this has also been despensed with.
The hospital I used to work in Canterbury had a smoking room for patients, and I used to be shocked at the amount of pregnant mothers in there having a fag. The room was always in a blue haze of smoke . But , at the end of the day , it is patients choice, as they used to perpetually quote if you nagged at them . It is just not good for the unborn babies, as it deprives them of vital oxygen and other nutrients. :nono:

;)

Those four rogue bishops are validly consecrated.

Is there no way of taking away a man's episcopal office?

Hello Poesy and all, I quite agree with you there should be a smoking room in all hospitals, far away from those who do not smoke of cause. I know from personal experance what it is to be in hospital for a long time and believe me it helped to have a fag to calm you down when you got some bad news. As for stoping , it happened on new years day three years ago I awoke in the morning and went about my daily things and at the end of that day I realised that I had not had a fag all day, and since then I have not had one.And also more to the piont no cravings, so am I lucky or am I lucky.

I'm not entirely sure that there is a way to remove episcopal office. The Pope can excommunicate them but they remain bishops because they were ordained by an Archbishop with valid apostolic succession.
