Heart of Jesus, desire of the everlasting hills. According to THE SACRED HEART IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH by Margaret Williams, R.S.C.J., the biblical source for this is: "The blessings of thy father are strengthened with the blessings of his fathers; until the desire of the everlasting hills should come; may they be upon the head of Joseph, and upon the crown of the Nazarite among His brethren." Gen. 49, 26. |

We used to kneel around the coal fire with our mother, saying night prayers. I still remember how it went. Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory be, O Sacrament most holy, then O SACRED HEART OF JESUS WE IMPLORE O MAKE US LOVE THEE EVER MORE AND MORE followed by Eternal rest and the family's own God Bless prayer. Above the fire there was a picture of the Sacred Heart, with the words that where the Sacred Heart is displayed Jesus' blessing will be on that home. |

That's similar to the Hymn, Sweet Heart of Jesus: Sweet Heart of Jesus, font of love and mercy Today we come, Thy blessing to implore. Oh touch our hearts, so cold and so ungrateful And make them Lord, Thine own for evermore. Sweet Heart of Jesus we implore, Oh make us love Thee more and more. Sweet Heart of Jesus, make us pure and gentle And teach us how to do Thy blessed will; To follow close the print of Thy dear footsteps And when we fall, Sweet Heart, oh love us still. |

You brought back memories Clare! Whilst I like many of the modern hymns, I would like to hear and sing some of the oldies now and again. |

I shall have to wait until Friday to enjoy the video clip, Clare. I need to have my lugholes flushed out at least once a year. This year the doses of olive oil in preparation for the flushing have made me stone deaf - this for the first time. |

Yesterday evening during my evening meal my right ear cleared a little. But then my new computer has one of its teething glitches and wont download some of the video clips quick enough so I shall have to wait until our son-in-law comes to sort them out. |

Today I successful played the video clip. It's unusual to hear such hymn sung as a solo and in a concert performance ambiance. ( I'm thankful, but I'm experiencing other awkward glitches in the computer) |

Another hymn which I didn't hear or sing very often even before V2 is: "To Jesus Heart all burning with love no man can tell....." It is I think an English version of a Geman language hymn. In the 1930s there was a Corpus Christi procession of the Blessed Sacrament from St George's church, York, to grounds belonging to the Poor Clares Monastery on Lawrence Street. A small brass band provided the music and this hymn seemed to me the most frequent and popular hymn sung. It often still haunts me. As a little boy I once on arrival back home processed with the clothes pole from the back garden round the house (outside) to the front garden and back diddarring the tune. The outbreak of WW2 and threat of invasion suspended the procession but it was never restored. |

Is that the one with "While ages course along..." in the chorus? I like that one too. |

I bet that you never thought you'd hear me saying that I prefer a more traditional version than you, Clare. Mind you, I have a soft spot for Maureen Hegarty, she was a regular participant in parish concerts when I was young and she's also gladly given me permission to use her recordings for online prayer. |
