After Mass today, as I was about to leave, I had just come out of the ladies'. I went to say goodbye to the priest, and then I turned and walked towards the door. The priest followed me, so I turned to him again, and he said something like:

"You might want to rearrange your skirt!"
 Did he say it in Latin ????

Mea culpa!

Last Sunday my daughter's church had a second collection. As the basket approached, my 22 month old grandson said in a loud voice "MORE money!" He was actually asking for another coin, but it sounded like a exclamation of horror. Quite embarrassing for his mum!

I wonder what he would have said had he been in a church in newly liberated Holland when the fifth or sixth collection plate came round. I lost count and my contribution got less and less.

Maybe that's where the expression "Going Dutch " arose Derek

Derek,

Do you mean the post V2 'liberation' of the Dutch Church?

No wonder they needed 5 collections since the Church in Holland imploded in the wake of silly trendiness during this period which is well documented.

It's a wonder they didn't need 50 collections!

Carlo, I'm sure you wrote that with your tongue in your cheek. A few years later, before V2, I attended another church in Holland and the prices of use of the benches were along the walls and there was a police notice that it was verboden to stand at the back. Surprisingly it was most expensive to sit at the front and it got cheaper as you went away from the Sanctuary. It should have been the reverse!
