Innate belief in God (and after life)

Do human beings have an innate belief in a divine creator, and an after life?

Broadcasters, reporting on tragic deaths, will say "This morning, prayers were said for (name) in the village parish church." The chances are they take it for granted the deceased was prayed for. I am not aware of prayers for the dead being usual in the Church of England or non conformist denominations.

Persons who do not openly profess to have a faith will say, of a crisis "We can only hope and pray." It would be interesting to test reactions if they were asked a straight question "Do you pray about it?"
Keep the Faith!
