Administrator Posts: 5,413 Group: Admin Member #6 Joined: September 26, 2006	A friend of my son's has just asked what is the significance of the "forty days" between Easter and Ascension Thursday - and I had to confess either I don't know, or I've forgotten. Can anyone help? KatyA

I think he was interested in the significance of 40 days - as in the 40 days of Lent - and he had already made the connection with the 40 days in the desert, so he'd obviously been giving the matter some thought. (So far as I am aware, this friend of my son is an atheist) KatyA

The Guéranger Blog Elsewhere on the same blog I read Quote: Dom Gueranger describes a charming ritual that used to be performed on the feast of the Ascension. The Easter candle was lit for all the liturgies during the Easter season, but after the reading of the Gospel (which closes with mention of the ascension), an acolyte would blow out the Easter candle. Admittedly, this is not a day for sadness, but still there is something to the idea that Christ has left us. The bridegroom is no longer with us, to borrow His own words. Does that still happen? I can't recall having seen it done. Happy Ascension Day everyone
