Clare:

"15-19 seconds in: the Nokia tune.

It's not so annoying in context!"

The Video clip is fascinating but I don't I think I would like it as a Ring Tone.

I hope you didn't play it in church before you were 'converted'!

1. I "converted" before I ever had a mobile.
2. I always have Nokia phones, and the first thing I do when I get a new one is change the ringtone from its default Nokia tune to something less annoying!
3. My phone is on silent in church.

I found a few more and as an exile I am suffering from nostalgia. I don't know whether to complain or thank you.

(Sadly, by chance I came across two or three other clips (not on Yorkshire) to which very inappropriate words had been added).

Speaking of music, we were listening to a snippet of Beethoven's Pathetic (as my son called it) when I realised that it reminded me of a modern(ish) song, possibly from a musical. Anyone any idea what I'm talking about

Yes! They used to play it a lot on Radio 2 in the early 80s!

I can hear Beethoven in that Clare, and I like it, but it isn't the one I can't think of - if you know what I mean.

In which case, I don't know.

I can play a bit of Beethoven's Pathetique on my guitar, just about recognisably. A bit out of practice though.

I can't get the thing out of my head now. I'm wondering if it was Midnight Blue,as I do listen to R2 and in the early 80's I would have been doing the school run so must have heard it. I'm still not convinced though - the bit at the end isn't right

Katy,

Clare is right, the slow melody from Beethoven's Pathetique is used in Midnight Blue .

I wonder if you were also thinking of the adagio from Moonlight Sonata.

Another beautiful slow movement by Beethoven you may like to listen to is from his Paino concerto no. 5, The Emperor. 2nd Movement.

No it wasn't Moonlight Sonata. My son was playing the Pathetique and it recalled something I heard long ago. I think Clare must be right and my memory is playing tricks.

"Midnight Blue" was a minor hit in 1982. I was 8, and I remember mum had Radio 2 on a lot at the time, and that song was played fairly often.

I see Billy Joel also pinched Beethoven's Pathetique melody for his song, 'This Night' from his Innocent man album. 1983
listen here if you can bear it, the melody comes in at 1.21 and 2.42 , that was just about as much as I could listen to of Billy Joel.
