A new Website from the U.S. Conference of Catholic will educate Catholics about the forthcoming English translation of the new Roman Missal. The site,Roman Missal , launched August 21, includes background material on the process of development of liturgical texts, sample texts from the Missal, a glossary of terms and answers to frequently asked questions. Content will be added regularly over the next several moths. The bishop’s Committee on Divine Worship hopes the site will be a central resource for those preparing to implement the new text. |

God Bless America. What are the UK bishops up to? Issuing booklets advising people to cover their noses when they sneeze (in case the devil gets out of them and goes up other peoples' nostrils). |

I suppose all this is for citizens of the USA to comment upon but it is all so reminiscent of the UK where the Church concentrates on things like this which concern most of us not at all John |

John we are getting the same translation as USA and the rest of the English speaking world. The American bishops published it, the wording is similar to the older one, I like it because it seems more expressive than the translation we use at present. |

Good , Rose. For myself, perfectly happy with the present translation, consider all this fuss is just to make jobs for the boys who would be better off doing something useful in the front line but whatever emerges we'll put up with it and it will make no difference whatsoever. John |

John I prefer it but it would be interesting to know how much time was spent on producing a translation that bears little difference to on that was in use forty years ago. Bishops from all over the English speaking world were involved, the chairman was one of our English bishops. The American bishops raised objections to the draft translation. Once that was finalised, they had to start on the readings for what we used to call The Proper of the Mass ie (for the youngsters aged under 50) the parts that differ each day. It beats me why they could not just use the old one, with Thee, Thou and Thine s substituted with YOU and YOURS. The Bishop of Leeds chaired the commission, he has been re-organising to close churches in areas where there are few Catholics and plan for new ones where Catholics are living now, and close three secondary schools and replace them with one larger one. I would have thought he was busy enough. |

http://www.catholic-ew.org.uk/ccb/content/pdf/1452 http://liturgyoffice.org.uk/Resources/ http://www.liturgyoffice.org.uk/Resources/GIRM/Documents/GIRM.pdf http://www.liturgyoffice.org.uk/Resources/GIRM/index.html The Bishops of England and Wales acted 4 years ago and these resources have been available but not all parishes seem to have received them. I think that the US has been more pro-active but I could be wrong. We had a few sessions in my parish a few years ago but they were not well attended. A few Eucharistic ministers and the usual suspects turned up and the PP seemed content that he had done his bit. In fairness it has been a rather stop and start launch and I think that many priests are waiting for a definitive green light. |

Anyone know when the new version comes into effect? Parishioners would certainly be interested in that bit of info! I will need my new missal and the church will need new cards for those unfamiliar with Catholic Mass.
