Patrick asked:

'I suppose I should ask:

What's yer point, Derek?

I was genuinely curious to know the attendance and where they came from. A website describes Tarporley as one of Cheshire's larger villages with a population of about 2,700. I have only passed through it by car and purely from observation of the selection of shops and other churches I would have described it as a small town. These days I am surprised the Catholic parish is still independent unless its population is extraordinarily (or Ordinarily?) Catholic.
Derek, our chapel of ease has a catchment area with population in five figures - one small market town and a lot of villages, some with over a thousand population. Mass attendance varies, sometimes under 30, occasionally over 50 - and the Mass is New Rite.

Passing through a village by car it is not possible to see whether all the church buildings are still in use as churches. Our village has "Wesley House", "Ye Olde Vicarage", and "Chapel Cottage", all are now large private residences. There are old chapels all over the place, still looking like chapels, most are now "chapel conversions"or put to industrial use, furniture restoration and such like.
