Wikipedia, :cannon: in case people had not noticed. :boxing:
For general chit chat it is like a tabloid red top paper such as the sun or the mirror. May bring something to your attention, feature an amusing story or even promote a worthy cause (as the Sun does from time to time)
My objection to its use in meaningful debate and discusion is the fact that it lacks editorial control and validation.

Welcome to Wikipedia,
the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit.
2,917,232 articles in English

If you tap into Papal Authority for example and subscribe you can enter what ever you wish and until or unless someone launches a legal objection you can enter any opinion or info you like. My younger sister for example is listed as being a few years younger than she is, no harm you may say and most girls fib about their age but what if it is something more serious like a quote from a particular book offered in defence of a particular point of view without reference to the context in which the original article or book was written.

If for example you click Redemptor Hominis you do not come to a copy of Redemptor Hominis but a summery, who edited the summery.

Wikipedia is a good sauce of gossip and bar room conversation but it should not be used as a source of information when contributing to a conversation or discussion that is meant to expand or improve the mind, correct error or promote church teaching.

I get very peeved when people cite Wikipedia and even more annoyed when school kids show me homework articles researched through the accursed website, apparently with their teacher’s full approval
:boxing: :frustrated: :yellowcard: :hereticrepellent: :handbags:  :cannon:   :cannon:

The article,

shows this

The link leads to the document, on the Vatican site, however I accept that the Wikipedia article itself is not authoritative.

Catholic Cyberforum is a good source of gossip and bar room conversation but I would not use it as an authoritative source, at an important meeting.

The last two posts, from Derek and Poesy have been used for a new thread in Liturgy Section, it is called Liturgy - quick questions. I don't know why we never thought of that before!

I picked this up from a quotation posted in Prayer Group thread for service personnel.

Quote:

And now we even have women over there in danger, doing their part in this tradition of going to war when our nation calls us to do so.

The quote is from a tribute to service personnel, in a parish newsletter. A google search indicates it originated in USA.

My peeve is that it is a misconception that there i something new about women being in danger on the battlefield. Many women nurses were decorated for bravery, tending the wounded during battle.

Two airwomen on duty at a switchboard during the Battle of Britain stayed at their post all night when their base was under attack. They knew their work was vital. In the morning the roof and three walls were gone. All that remained were the switchboard and the wall to which it was attached. The two women were awarded the Air Force Medal. I do not doubt that women serving in the Navy and Army were in similar danger.

This website relates acts of heroism carried out by women of the American armed forces.

What is new, in Western countries, is that women are now on combat duties.

Today I have a big peeve.

Nobody noticed the photo on my profile signature.

I'm going to stamp my feet and have a tantrum.

My pet peeve. We have a cry chapel in our church. But as usual certain parents do not use it. This means I have to listen to wailing, crying, toys being dropped ssh every 5 seconds. I can't hear the priest at times. My husband mentioned it didn't bother him and it doesn't seem to bother the priest. So stop moaning. Another peeve when he FRANCIS does not AGREE with me.

I don't know. I found it on the internet, looking for a picture that said I'M IN CHARGE (taking the Mick out of a person who made it clear he's in charge of another forum)

karenjane reminded me of the days of the old penny when a mother would give such a coin to her child to play with. It was inevitably dropped and rolled then fell. I was not so annoyed the first time but I became more annoyed when the mother gave the coin back to the child and it fell yet again!!

One of my pet peeves is, when I go for a walk on a fine day, say "Hello, isn't it a lovely day" and the answer is "Hmph, it's blowy" "it's a bit damp." or with a scowl "how long for?"

Oh no, one of my pet peeves is that there are people who complain about children in church and then wonder why those children don't go when they grow up. In fact I think we have a thread about this somewhere.

Edited to add link to earlier thread Here

I have always said that when Jesus said, "suffer the little children to come unto Me." he knew the adults would suffer.
