"Lively collegial affection" ... Love it! Sounds like a politburo plenary or a Labour Party conference fraternal greeting, circa 1978. Reading between the lines I would draw the conclusion that the bishops of Austria are now nursing some very tender parts of their collective anatomy. And not before time. I was very encouraged to read, in last week's Catholic Herald, Paul Johnson's account of the Holy Father's meeting with Margaret Thatcher. Paul Johnson congratulated Pope Benedict on his frank and courageous remarks in defence of Catholic truth and expressed the hope that he would brush aside criticism and continue to speak out. The Holy Father responded "I intend to do so". Very heartening! QV |
