I see there has been a mni-furore about the BBC using a young woman presenter for children's TV because she was born with one of her arms just a stump. She has decided against a prosthetic and wears short sleeves because she feels more comfortable in them. She has been criticised in blogs by parents worried that she might frighten their children. Dear God. I think the children of those parents have more to worry about from parents who think like that. Fortunately, she has received an avalanche of supportive posts and mails and she has handled the whole affair with great aplomb. Everytime she appears, my 18 month old grandson shouts her name out with delight. John |

I remember Mary, Mungo & Midge! One of my earliest memories, in fact. Most classic children's programmes were on the BBC. ITV had hardly any good ones, apart from Jamie & The Magic Torch.

Children used to love the BBC interludes and the fifties ITV adverts. Nostalgic for the old Pepsodent advert? I found it! You'll wonder where the yellow went |
![]() ![]() Catholic and proud of it! Talk to God before Mass. Talk to each other afterwards | |
