The Blairs appear to have aged considerably since the day Tony became PM. Mrs T was the only Prime Minister who did not seem to age much, either she thrived on it or she had a good beautician! I don't recall any other PM's wives ageing fast during their time at Downing Street.

She looks like she is attending her mother's funeral.

If she does Sean then that is because she has courteously observed Vatican protocol. But I agree I would have preferred to see her maintain her freedom of expression and to turn up in something brighter.

John,
It is not the outfit. That is prescribed by protocol. It is the look on her face. Protocol does not prevent her from smiling.

How can anyone smile all the time, when there are cameras around nearly all day?

She may have been holding back a big belch (as if a lady would do such a thing).

According to the Mail Cherie Blair is not all that welcome. Check the following:
Catholic backlash at Cherie Blair's speech to students over views on birth control

I'll leave it at that.

Well, she spoke. Was listened to courteously. Called for women leaders in the Church. The sky didn't fall down. No one died. the Faith lives on. What a fuss we make about trifles.

In this case appropriately a Cherie trifle.

John Smeaton

Last Thursday the Apostleship of the Sea (AOS), a Catholic charity for seafarers, invited Cherie Blair (pictured) to launch its annual appeal. The AOS' invitation to Mrs Blair is to be lamented, considering that, in the very same week as Mrs Blair launched the AoS appeal, she continued her campaign against Catholic teaching on the culture of life. In an interview in yesterday's Sunday Telegraph, Mrs Blair said:

"[T]hough I like to think of myself as a good Catholic, I couldn't have had the career I had without contraception. The fact is, even in Spain, France and Italy there must be a lot of Catholics who bend the rules."

And in today's Independent newspaper, Mrs Blair endorses ActionAid, a charity which calls for access to abortion.

SPUC director blog
Mr Smeaton goes on to say that he will be writing to AOS and asks others to do likewise
There appear to be 2 websites for AOS, the first
http://apostleshipofthesea.org.uk/cms/who-we-are makes no mention of a Catholic connection
http://www.stellamaris.net/ourlady.php?s=1 (seems to be an older site and has not been updated) states that AOS is an agency of the Catholic Church
I assume they are one and the same organisation, Mr Smeaton certainly thinks so, so why does the new site omit reference to Catholicism.

Stella Maris is a commonly used name for the Apostleship of the Sea.

Quote:

‘Stella Maris’ is the name by which many seafarers also know the Apostleship of the Sea. This is because ‘Stella Maris, Star of the Sea’, is an ancient title for Our Lady, traditionally used by seafarers and others associated with the sea. Just as seafarers have traditionally depended on the stars for navigation, so they trust in the protection and guidance of Our Lady. The Apostleship of the Sea use Stella Maris as our patron to pray over seafarers and keep them safe.

This is what I was trying to say
Quote:

Checking out the website of the AOS though, it took a long time to confirm that it is a Catholic charity. It is, by all accounts, staffed by committed individuals, involved in fundraising initiatives and provides pastoral support to our seafarers. In the small print, at the bottom of a few, but not all, of their press releases it says it is an "agency of the Catholic Bishops’ Conferences of England & Wales and Scotland".

Thing is, a Catholic institution can never be just nominally so, but otherwise disguise its mission to the outside world, especially when it's supported by the Bishops. If Catholicism is not to virtually disappear from the British Isles in the next 50 years, we need to be more than nominally Catholic, yet entirely secular in outlook and practice.

Not quite the best version I've ever heard, more a case of the ONLY version I can find online ;)
