The announcement of the relics of St Theresa of Lisieux to this country and the possible benefits makes me suggest a topic of discussion. We often hear of people on pilgrimages to miraculous statues and pictures, most often of Our Lady, and healing or other benefits of relics. Surely whilst the descriptions tend to say otherwise it is Almighty God who carries out the miracles as a result of people begging Our Lady and the relevant Saints to pray for their requests to God? One might also ask why particular statues or pictures are chosen for miraculous benefits and not others? Also why after a while some such become ineffective or dormant?[redit][/redit] Edited by Derekap, Monday, 22. September 2008, 15:23.

Buckfast Abbey advertise an item called Miraculous Pendant, it is based on the Miraculous Medal. http://www.buckfast.org.uk/buyonline/shop/shop.php?action=full&id=135 There is no explanation on the site, of the meaning or history of the pendant/medal. I came across it while looking for a crucifix for a protestant relative to place inside a coffin. If I had advised her to try the Abbey site, she could have seen that and come to the conclusion we attribute powers to the object, rather than to God.[redit][/redit] |

For some of us it would be a miracle if we could afford it! |
